𝗗𝗢𝗘𝗦 𝗔𝗕𝗕𝗢𝗧𝗧'𝗦 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗖𝗛 𝗧𝗢 𝗠𝗜𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗙𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝗖𝗛𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬?

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a devout Christian, has selected bouys and barbed wire as his equipment of choice to stymie, stifle and squelch those who dare to cross into the United States via the Rio Bravo or Rio Grande River.

Barbed wire itself is associated with oppression and imprisonment, as it frequently garnishes the walls of prison camps, concentration camps, and historically was used to corral and stymie access to the open range by the indigenous "Native Americans" who called it "the Devil's rope."

If climbing over or swimming over huge bouys, only to face barbed wire doesn't worry you, think about it as "razor wire," another name given the 1800's invention.  The wire's sharp points cause pain and bleeding, leaving scars as evidence of the struggle.  If the historical Jesus wore a crown of thorns during his crucifiction, he's lucky barbed wire had not yet received a patent.

   

While not involved in any religion or certain of the existence of a god, I've great respect for the words and tone of the Sermon on the Mount, said to be authored by the historical Jesus.

Abbott's approach to those crossing our border doesn't seem to reflect that same sentiment.
