CHARTER SCHOOL TEACHER CHALLENGES FILEMON VELA IN DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY

R to L:  Diego Zavala,  Jim Barton and Erasmo Castro on Whine with Cheez Podcast Oct. 20

Diego Zavala, a 26 year old Idea Charter Schools high school teacher, feels Congressman Filemon Vela has lost touch with the common man.

"70% of Vela's financial support comes from large corporations and about 30% from rich lawyers," Zavala explains.

"Those are the people Vela must satisfy, not ordinary people like us," the challenger continues.

Zavala told the Whine with Cheez audience Sunday that he favors universal health care and free tuition for Texas students at state universities.

"I incurred $170,000 in student debt to get my Masters degree that I will be paying on till I'm 69," Zavala stated.

"Students should not have that burden just to get an education," he continued.

Zavala also favors abolition of the Electoral College to be replaced by rank voting.

  1. I want Vela gone, but geez if he incurred $170,000 in student debt which will take until he retires to pay off he is clearly unfit to manage the federal budget.

  2. Also, he apparently fails to understand how the education system functions. He, if elected to Congress, cannot guarantee free tuition to Texas residents at state universities. That is a state issue. Also, does he know the difference between a state university, public university, and private university?

  3. Totally naΓ―ve fellow. Congressmen/women serve two years and must fund-raise for re-election like sumbitches as soon as they take office. Of course they take contributions from most who offer! smh

  5. You couldn’t get your story straight, Barton. First he’s a BISD teacher. Now he’s a charter school teacher. Which is it? Fake news with no honesty to report that you grievously erred in your reporting. lmfao

    1. Let's view this as a teaching opportunity. Journalists make corrections from time to time. What they do not do is make up fake stories about Elvis impersonators or fake trips to New Mexico or the hill country. ha ha ha ha ha ha
