Bill Hudson Admonishes Citizens to Be Nicer to Each Other

From the editor:  Bill Hudson, a 1972 graduate of St. Mark's Prep School in Dallas and subsequently the University of Texas, gives his countrymen a lesson in civility with his Letter to the Editor of the Brownsville Herald published October 15. 2013.  Mr. Hudson notes "acrimony" and "uncivil behavior" in "anti-gun" and "gay marriage" discussions across the country.  Hudson also bemoans "trolls on blogs" and "nasty TV pundits."  Below, we print his letter in its entirety:

Bill Hudson
Editor:

I see a lot of acrimony and uncivil behavior, whether pro or anti gun, gay marriage, Republican vs. Democrat, Muslim v. everything, race baiting and name calling and I don't like it.

If each of us would strive to be decent with one another in our various debates, I think we would all be better off.

Cursing and name-calling does not advance the debate, whichever side of whichever issue you may take. To say this bad behavior is off-putting is an understatement.

Trolls on blogs have become particularly nasty, but so are many of the TV "pundits."

No wonder many folks are choosing to avoid getting involved in politics.

  2. Well, the two previous comments appear to have just made Mr. Hudson's point quite credible.

  3. Billy, I have some words of wisdom for you passed down from the ages. It is a hell of a lot easier to be civil when you are a fucking millionaire via old money than it is for the average jerk just getting by in life.
