Was City Manager Charlie Caber Behind the Postponement of City Commission Meeting?

From the editor:  This notice was sent to all departments in the city Tuesday afternoon.  It seems to imply that the postponement of Tuesday evening's City Commission meeting was requested by City Manager Charlie Cabler.

NOTICE OF POSTPONEMENT OF CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF 6/18/2013.
To all:
The decision to postpone the commission meeting, scheduled for this evening, was made at the request of our City Manager to better prepare to inform our commission of the details of the UTB request for lease space at the City Plaza and Cueto Buildings. Specific information as to the terms and length of lease are not available at this time . The university staff is working on details to present to city administration. If approved, relocation of city departments will be to vacate city-owned property such as Market Square etc., however, those details are pending and will not be ready today, thus, the request by our City Manager to postpone the meeting.
Before an important decision of this nature is made all the details need to be organized and presented to our commission and this will be worked on and presented at a later date to be determined.
Thank you.

  1. Since Mayor Martinez and Rose Gowen left the city manager and his staff out of the discussions for turning over property to UT System, it only seems right to expect a delay while the Mayor and Commissioner Zavaletta-Gowen tell Charlie what they want him to recommend on behalf of the city staff....and to give time for Tony to get his next female vote on to the commission after the runoff election.
This is autocratic power mongering at its finest.

  2. Why does no one ask you scheduled the meeting in the first place? It was probably the same person who canceled it.

By the way, for future reference, the word YET was left out of the phrase: "at a later date YET to be determined."

Why not use Amigo Land Mall for office space? That was a hell of a buy in the first place...

  4. Why not offer them some space at Amigoland Mall?
