Former Commissioner Anthony Troiani Endorses Filemon Vela for Congress, District 34

Former City Commissioner AND also once himself a candidate for Congress, District 34, Anthony Troiani has endorsed Filemon Vela.  Adding this endorsement to the one by Ramiro Garza, Vela now has garnered support from possibly two of the more articulate, respected candidates from that field of 8 Democrats.
Troiani and Begum

Interestingly, in the past week, Troiani also posed for a picture with Yolanda Begum, candidate for Justice of the Peace, 2-2, but stopped just semantically short of "endorsing" her.  He asked Gilbert Velasquez, a graphics artist used by many of the campaigns to characterize his association with Begum as "support", but not an endorsement. Whatever!  Perhaps that timidity by Troiani is connected with his aspirations for future campaigns and a desire to not unduly anger the corrupt Ernie Hernandez, father of JP candidate Erin H. Garcia and Gilberto Hinojosa, the unscrupulous new state chairperson of the Democratic Party.

In any event, we include Filemon Vela's words below, acknowledging the endorsement, along with the endorsement picture.

Filemon Vela, Democrat for US Congress, is humbled and honored to announce that he has the official support and endorsement of his primary election opponent, Mr. Anthony Troiani. Mr. Troiani is a former at-large Brownsville City Commissioner and United States Marine who has bravely served our country and community. He is also a Brownsville small business owner and attorney of over 16 years.

Filemon Vela and Anthony Troiani are proponents of a Democratic platform that focuses on solutions to some of our nations most pressing issues and pays special attention to protecting the spirit of our country's most important and beloved initiatives. From immigration reform and job creation to the preservation of Medicare and Social Security, Mr. Troiani has substantive and smart ideas. His endorsement gives Filemon Vela's candidacy even more credibility and strength.

Mr. Troiani, during the primary, noted that improving access to quality education for our children will ensure that they have a better opportunity to thrive. Filemon Vela agrees wholeheartedly. Mr. Vela has committed to fight against efforts to defund the Pell grant system, which is vital to keeping our students in colleges and universities.

Furthermore, both men agree that the United States needs to reform its immigration policies, including the DREAM Act. Filemon Vela believes that reforms should aim to improve border security, create a more just immigration system, and increase the quality of life for people in District 34.

As a veteran of the US Marine Corps, Anthony Troiani knows that adequate care of our military's men and women after they serve is just as important as the care they receive during active duty. Filemon Vela will work to ensure that veterans have readily available and quality benefits within practical reach.

With the July 31st runoff election less than a month away, Filemon Vela's endorsement by Anthony Troiani is an affirmation of his ability to bring strong leaders together to work for the betterment of District 34.

  1. I still don't know what Philemon Vela has been doing for the last twenty years that qualifies him to represent us. And, frankly, the stiff third-person recitation of very safe memes does not reassure.

  2. A guy has to wear his name on his shirt, well, he doesn't know who he is. Vela is the better of two evils, but he's no visionary - just another Brownsville Zero.

    3. Campaign logo. In Brownsville? The only logo here is the face of poverty, a plate of greasy tacos, the unemployed, the Deadbeat Dads, the adulterers or the drunks!!!

    1. He came in nearly 2nd place in Cameron County out of a field of 8. Though I personally don't think Cameron County judge is the right race for him, he clearly would be a viable contender. Glad to see he is supporting both Vela and Begum, by far the two smartest and best candidates in the runoff

    2. If Vela is so smart, why does'nt he debate Denise.....he's affraid the truth about him will come out, like arrested four times on DUI-what a loser.

    3. Individual endorsements from individuals who are just interested in their best interest(troiani & ramiro). These are endorsements for Denise: Bro. PD; NEA; AFT; TSTA; AOBE; AFL-CIO; INT'L Letter Carriers;
Shrimpers Asso.; NRA; Valley Vietnam Veterans; League of women voters; Audobon Society; 11 county democratic party chairman; etc. Ramiro Garza is the City Manager of Edinburg(not in our district)-The City Manager of BROWNSVILLE(In this district) is endorsing DENISE.

    4. You mean endorsement like they accepted Denise's desperate call or she without warning jumped in their group for a snapshot? Yeah that sounds like the stories going around.

    5. No shit
Denise likes to brag about her AFLCIO "endorsements" from Corpus and McAllen... but these places are outside our district, and can't vote in this race. Intentionally misleading, wouldn't you agree. Don't expect me to vote for someone who think it's ok to fake us out to hide the fact... she has very few real supporters in this district. Come on, be straight with people. Everyone is tired of two faced lying politicians covering their tracks like she and her boss did for the last 2 decades. On the other hand, she is still a Democrat, and a better option than Adela Garza or Jessica Puente Bradshaw. As a Democrat, I will support Filemon or Denise, whichever Democrat gets the nomination for Noveber. Make no mistake though, our ENTIRE family will be voting for Filemone Vela in 2 weeks.

    6. All of the endorsements for Denise are letters of endorsements. All The AFL-CIO chapters are in Mcallen, Victoria & Corpus(fil's home town)-ask them what they think of him. With these AFL-CIO endorsements comes the National AFL-CIO involvement. Solomon Ortiz supported Villalobos and now Vela because they want to continue covering their tracks. Denise is the True Democrat, Vela has been a Republican since 2002. All I'm saying is Fact, stop listening to Cheezmeh

    7. Arrested? Lies. Nothing but absolute lies... So typical. If you want some advice Denise, distance yourself from Tax Cheats and Liars, it only reflects poorly on your judgement.

    8. Hope someone notifies the League of Women Voters that they endorsed Denise. This is directly from their website... "The League is nonpartisan, which means we don’t support or oppose candidates for public office." Look for yourself. http://www.lwv.org/content/about-us

Lies, more posturing, and fake momentum. Campaign is a hollow shell.

  4. The last statement is a joke. Troiani's endorsement is in no way "an endorsement of anyones ability to bring strong leaders together"....it is merely an affirmatiion of his ability to attract other politicians to his side. Troiani's endorsement is presented as a way to improve Veteran's health programs.....that is mere speculation. In 27 years Solomon Ortiz, a veteran himself, offered nothing....repeat NOTHING....to Valley Veterans. Vela is not a Veteran and we can't expect him to be sympathetic or empathetic to Veterans.

    1. Vela's opponent is not a veteran either, and she ran cover for Solomon Ortiz for 27 years while he did nothing to help veterans here in the valley.

    2. Veterans for Vela!!!!!

    3. So what you are saying is that we need a veteran to care for veterans but veterans don't care for veterans? Interesting perspective.

  5. (Furthermore, both men agree that the United States needs to reform its immigration policies, including the DREAM Act.)

The DREAM Act is not a policy or law. Therefore, you don't reform something that isn't there.

    1. That's right. It isn't policy or law. Should be though. I think Mr. Vela is saying that when immigration reform happens, the DREAM act should be included in the reforms.

  6. But any Reform should include the dream act.

    1. Yes the Dream act is very important, thank you Filemon Vela for supporting the Dream!!!

  7. The only Dream Act Vela is involved in is he's Acting out a Dream that he's gonna be a Congressman......JUST A DREAM- never gonna happen!!!!
