Mark Sossi was hired by the City Commission to be a "Yes" man when asked about the legality of actions by Tony Martinez and United Brownsville. Sossi's job depends on him finding a "legal way" or "legal justification" to support whatever this commission of idiots wants to do. Tony Martinez wants no challenges to his ideas and Sossi is paid the big bucks to find ways to say "yes" to Tony and his "ventures".
ReplyDeleteEven if it is legal, the elected officials have a moral, fiduciary, and trust standard that the decisions being made are not based on a personal agenda, but is the city agenda and representation of the people they serve. In this instance, as in the R.E. Smity property give away, Jacob Brown give way, Cueto Building, Casa Nylon, renting offices to be empty, funding personal agenda programs for a select few, entering into very costly deals like a power plant for almost twice the cost per megawatt, when we have real needs to make the city progressive and better community-the Lincoln Park give away to one of the richest universities in the world is a travesty to principle of government that is suppose to be of, for, and by the people. The Lincoln Park issue is the same as the Event Center issue back in 1990, which called and we forced the commission to put the issue up to a referendum. At that time, the voters spoke against the personal agenda by some property owners in the Amigoland area and voted for an event center to the north, which has turned out to have been the right choice as proven by time. The Lincoln Park issue is exactly the same and it should be put to a referendum. Brownsville cannot continue to give away its's assets or discount them to bottom dollar to please a select few. The UTB/TSC merger was a mistake and now to allow UTB to go to Hidalgo was also a mistake and we will always be the last rung on the ladder politically and in the priorities of the UT system. The city with the highest poverty rate is the one they bleed.
