Frank Morris, former County Chair, who resigned in May. |
I've spent the last several days talking to local party members, trying to ascertain WHY Frank Morris resigned and what his future is with the local party. The party seems split, albeit not evenly, between those loyal to Morris and those who want him gone.
County Judge Carlos Cascos |
As to the reason for Morris' multiple resignations, his loyal supporters within the local party point to a challenge to his credentials as a delegate to the state convention. His resignation is portrayed as an "honorable" deference to the due process of a hearing at the state level regarding the challenge to his credentials.
Those not pleased with Morris leadership describe a different scenario, claiming that Morris had been advised of a loophole within Republican Party rules, whereby someone not a delegate or county chairman would find challenges to their credentials NOT considered at the state level. The thinking was that Morris could sidestep the state level hearing, but then be voted back in the next term as county chairperson.
Despite the Morris resignations and the fact that he was not present at the convention, state leadership decided to hear the challenges.
In addition to Morris, credential challenges were filed against local party officials Sharon Batterson and Alex Torres. Those making the challenges were Lisa and Simon Mata, Roman Perez and Adrian Barbosa. The Matas and Adrian Barbosa, although selected as delegates, were not able to attend the state convention for health and employment reasons respectively. Roman Perez, not selected as a delegate, did travel to Fort Worth for the hearing and testified.
Morgan Graham |
In general terms, the credential challenges involved alleged violations of Republican Rule 14C requiring open meetings at all levels of the party. The complainants alleged observing party members excluded from the Rules and Nominations meetings at the county level.
The defense was that the meetings had not officially started, but were in "workshop" mode while officials organized things.
The state credentials committee ruled in favor of those having their credentials challenged.
While one faction of the local party feels "exhonorated," the other feels state leaders can clearly see that "all is not right in Cameron County." The challenge for Frank Morris or whoever takes his place will be to build consensus. A party that loses nearly every local election cannot afford to lose a faction of their party, however vocal about adherence to party rules.
Roman is a malcontent and a trouble maker. We can't move forward until we remove traitors like him from our midst. I heard that he said he was only Republican so he could get elected. I hear many of the precinct chairs want to vote for his removal. Let's do it!
ReplyDeleteJuan,
DeletePlease reread what you wrote. "I heard" and "I hear." You're getting the message some within the party want you to get. Why not base your viewpoint on your own personal interaction with Mr. Perez, not simply what you hear.
The dirty little secret Roman Perez is a brilliant man who knows state rules and procedures, Frank Morris was banking on our ignorance or not fully understanding protocol, probably didn't take into account Mr. Perez uncanny knowledge. Frank represents what's wrong, the past, a true Establishment relic. We the People are tired of the games, the lies, the suppression that's happening on both sides of the aisle. The difference common sense people on the right are cleaning house. The common sense people on the left are still asleep at the wheel and they better wake up real soon cause totalitarians are squashing as we speak the little FREEDOM WE ALL HAVE.
DeleteIt is possible to fight the "establishment"and win ( look what just happen the REPUBLICAN MAJORITY LEADER IN WASHINGTON LOST TO A COMMON SENSE GUY, A HISTORIC COSMIC CHANGE). Now the Republican Party has a fantastic opportunity IF AND ONLY IF they listen to WE THE PEOPLE.
It is no secret that Roman is an intelligent guy. Unfortunately, he applies it in ways that are not constructive, and has a tendency to have meltdowns and fits of petulance when he does not get his way. That being said, I hope that this is a wake up call for him to prioritize supporting our candidates instead of sowing the seeds of discord for personal gain. I have said many times that this constant distraction (the personal conflicts he has with certain party members) undermines our ability to focus on what matters most: supporting our candidates and championing their campaigns.
DeleteOn June 11, 2014 at 10:14 AM Roman Perez was tooting his own horn and posting anonymous. Nobody else heralds the knowledge of rules and protocols more than Roman Perez, and nobody else pets his ego about it.
DeleteLol.
"We can't move forward until we remove traitors like him......."
ReplyDeleteGet it through your fat head. You can't move forward until you know what direction that lies in, and you haven't a clue. If you think you know what direction will lead forward, five will get you ten that it is wrong.
Roman Perez goes whichever way rhe wind blows. A week before he said he wanted to be SREC he was saying that he wanted to avoid being too much in thr forefront of Republican support because he wanted to run for City Commissioner.
ReplyDeleteConsidering Mr. Morris had 85% of the vote and was cleared of all charges, he needs to stay and stick it out until a younger more viable candidate for county chair steps forward.
ReplyDeleteNot so fast, Roman. That ain't you. You are like the County Republican Party's Pat Ahumada.
Now see what you've done- you used the Pat signal and he shows up!
DeleteThe ironic thing about all this posturing and "politics", which includes both major parties, is that neither party represents the interests of the vast super majority of the Valley's humble population. The only party that ever did, La Raza Unida, is long gone. The spoils are left to the oligarchs and their stooges.
ReplyDeleteI've filtered out quite a few comments that, despite containing substance, added personal attacks. FYI, several individuals asked their names not be used in the story, but that borders on ridiculous. If you're part of the story, you're part of the story. And, this is a continuing story. . . . . . .
ReplyDeleteI will gladly put my name to this: the state heard testimony and looked over the evidence and determined that no rules were broken. I spoke with members of the committee that ruled on this matter, and they found that there were inconsistencies in the testimony offered by one of the main complaintants, and that his story was adapted several times as the questioning commenced.
DeleteNo rules were broken.
The Cameron County Republican Party needs an Hispanic Chair....and a credible Hispanic Chair that can show how strong the Republican Party really is in Cameron County. Most Republicans remain "in the closet" here because of the Dumbocratic power to boycott businesses of anyone not like them. There are a lot of Republicans "in the closet" that we need to "come out".....to establish a real two or multi-party political system and to challenge the Dumbokrats".
ReplyDeleteSo what your saying Dumbocrats are really FASCIST?
DeleteFYI-Fascism means, dictatorial movement: any movement, ideology, or attitude that favors dictatorial government, centralized control of private enterprise, repression of all opposition, and extreme nationalism.
Closet Repubs. you all need to grow some BALLS and confront these fascist just remember YOU pay the bills, YOU pay their salary. Trust me when you do you will win and We the People will support you in droves.
There is a strong indicator that speaks for itself about the Republican Party and that is "growth". The Republican Party has not grown in the past 30 years. The party will not grow, until it understands and comes to terms that hispanics are part of the demographics and the new face in the political arena. The extreme agenda against immigrants says it all.
ReplyDeleteBack in 2000-2002, the Republican Party introduced resolutions to deny citizenship to newborns from illegal immigrants, when this platform is against the constitution. That's when I left the Republican Party and it still has not changed. The Border Wall symbolizes the party's position against Hispanics. Tear down the WALL!
ReplyDeleteChingao, Pat, you leaving their party was the best thing you could do for them!
DeleteThe border wall was supported by more democrats than republicans. Obama has had 6 years to address it & he hasnt. Obama has deported more undocumented immigrants in 6 years than bush did in 8.
ReplyDeleteCascos himself spoke out against the border wall. Ahumada needs to be sent back into his corner for additional time out- he is again showing his ass.
DeleteWhy not focus on the party and not me, morons! Don't you have anything else to do than trash pat ahumada? Do you feel that insignificant that you must blast me on anything and everything I say? I feel sorry for you, because it shows how insignificant you are and how you contribute nothing. I am a conservative who votes democrat, because the party of Lincoln has lost touch with minorities. This is based on my experience and thinking, but of course, according to you, I am not entitled to an opinion. The border was initiated and implemented by Republicans. The politics behind the border wall that has evolved to present is a result of the driving force behind it. Both parties are now afraid to stand up for what is right and admit the Wall has not worked, will not work and the cost is insane. The money invested to build and maintain the Wall could be used to empower people with better education and jobs, to build better communities. Morons! Who like to trash me, how about putting your name to your post or saying it to my face. That is too much to expect from cowards who are like maggots that contribute nothing, other than poison. By the way, Cascos goes along with the party, he just tries to do the two step by proposing a Levee Border Wall, which is not against the Wall, but for the Wall morons.
ReplyDeleteHas Pat Ahumada reached the point of greatness where Pat Ahumada refers to Pat Ahumada in the third person?
DeleteDumbass..you start the bashing & finger pointing & when someone responds you get butt hurt. You're factless. Have you looked at the Congressional vote when voting for the wall? Want to look at the party? Let's. Indictments, prison, bribery, dui, stupidity. So yes, let's focus on the party.
ReplyDeleteYou prove my point! You refer to the indictments pushed a a corrupt police chief, which I was acquitted of, but that makes no difference to you. Then you refer to the DUI, which I was not found guilty and a reckless charge was made, which was appropriate since I was texting at the time I hit the curb when I left the house.
ReplyDeleteNow, you want to blame me for the congressional record and everything else, when I clearly recall Cascos doing the two step, wanting to appear he was against the Wall by supporting a Levee Wall position, which is his given right and nothing wrong with him taking a position that he believes in. So, why do you make it an issue? Now, I can tell you about Cascos and his way of doing things, that shows he is more ego driven to the point he will put residents at risk, as he did during a hurricane threat when he purposely seized BISD buses Brownsville, but had no drivers. Cascos did this because the media was paying more attention to Brownsville's proposed evacuation plans than to the county's. He seized the BISD buses knowing that Brownsville had already requested them and had implemented the plan to use our urban transit bus drivers and pay others to drive the buses if needed to evacuate citizens. I also recall when Cascos wanted to put up the County's Emergency Command Center in Edingburg, which I called him to discuss and met with him at the city's conference room. We told him this was a bad idea and that we would be willing to share our command center with the county, which he rejected and opted to open the command center at the Dancy Building with all the glass windows. Because Cascos put citizens at risk by seizing ALL OF THE BISD BUSSES, I formally filed a complaint with the State due to his poor judgement and potential loss of risk of life driven by his ego. The complaint was in writing and in the record. The next hurricane threat, Cascos did not interfere with Brownsville and focused on the county, as he should. Now, you call me a D_____, but obviously you are a cult follower who likes bashing those who do what is right to hide your incompetence and those you support. You sound just like Chris Valadez and Rosendo Escareno.
Weren't you the major proponent of the move to make texting and drivina banned in Brownsville, Pat? I seem to recall seeing your name on that ordinance. I mean, I understand the fighhting crime by night and fighting th shakes by day makes it hard to vote by phone for the next American Idol, but pull over next time!
DeleteWeren't you the major proponent within the city to make driving and texting banned in Brownsville? I seem to recall your name on the ordinance....
DeleteOMG..you filed a complaint with the State? and what happened? And which Hurricane was that? Were there evacuations? I bet the state officials all backed you up. Thank God you saved the day Mayor. I slept so much better knowing you had full control of all situations. He seized the buses? Unilateral seizing. Wow...how could he do that? You were the mayor. The one in charge. Pass me another cold one.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, I am glad to know you were comforted knowing you had one Mayor who was responsible in preparation of a potential hurricane to prevent loss of life. After the complaint, Cascos quit interfering with Brownsville's Emergency Plan.. Thank you Cascos cult follower Chris Valadez!
ReplyDeleteNanananananananana.....PATMAN!
DeleteThe citizens of Brownsville are under siege by flood waters, the ice cold grip of death and crime tightens its choke hold upon the law abiding and increasingly oppressed innocents. But what is that?! The Patsignal lights the sky!!! A call is made on the special red phone by some insignificant and powerless commissioner (who need nit be mentioned as they are minor characters in this story of heroic feats by our hero) and is answered by Patman's trusty sidekick, his mole! They rush to the scene to intervene upon the fiends of hell rejoicing upon the slain and jump a curb....and the rest is history.
Hey moron I didn't read where anyone was blaming you for the Congressional record but to simply read it to get your facts straight. You started the blame game without facts. You get called out & your novels begin. You my writing fool, are uninformed & ignorant. You spin to accommodate your way of thinking. You are in a significant minority. Don't blame the elitists on your sound thrashing. Blame your arrogance. Respond in your 1,000 word rhetoric. I for one am done responding to your lunacy.
ReplyDeleteSeriously. The state u think made the judge stop interfering. Knowing that state law is clear in that the county judge is ultimately in charge of evacuations. Not a mayor. Get your facts straight. The state sided with the county judge. Not the incompetent mayor brownsville was saddled with. You say you wanted to commandeer the buses. Totally worthless. Thank god the school district dismissed you.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it. This post is about the local party & this delusional mayor talks about hurricanes, the border wall, his decision making, the county judge, his complaints...why? This dude is a bona-fide nut case. It's a wonder why tropical Texas hasn't picked him up.
ReplyDeleteThe sheer genius of our hero, Patman, can not be understood by mere men. We just have to sit back and let him do his thing....which is rid the world of the dark forces of orderly emergency management and curbs that keep jumping in the way of the Patmobile!
DeleteLook maggot, I do not know what hole you crawl out of when I post, but it must get to you that you cannot allow me to express my point of view or anything. It eats you up, but I promise you, YOU will get what is coming to you. My good Lord always takes care of my enemies and maggots like you. I promise your time will come.
ReplyDeleteOrale....the hole I crawl out of is your mother's on a sea of spit and smegma like you did, pinche gΓΌey. Only difference is I got one head, not an extra head growing out my head, you get me? Chinga su madre guy.....i could be juuuur long lost brudduh.
DeleteNanananananananana....PATMAN!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, the city is under siege. Villains run amock and the cold grip of terror tightens its hold on the citizens of Brownsville. The Pat signal lights the sky, and Pat Ahumada's mole receives the call made on the special red phone, dialed by none other than some commissioner who is so insignificant in comparison to our brave hero who...
Hey Pat, mind wearing a mask? I understand your mole is the closest thing you got to a Robin but he is upstaging your lunacy.
Hahaha...your good lord also takes care of the feeble minded. I'm sure patman is the valedictorian of that class.
ReplyDeleteMore like valeDICKtorian of the class, and that is being generous. He is too busy swilling cheap liquor to check in here. Madre de Dios he is too busy being himself.
DeleteThe book will follow tomorrow.
The Joker is running amok....& Patman's woman is pissing on the tarmac waiting to board the Pat plane. To The Pat cave...
ReplyDeleteNope...I challenge the validity of this account. We all kniw Real Dolls don't piss.
DeleteWhat will our caped crusader accomplish today? What manner of foe will he vanquish? Why, it is the evil commenter A. Nonymous hell bent on destroying the moral of our hero! Will he cave? Will he stumble (most assuredly on the same vicious curb that jumped out in front of the Patmobile that fateful night)?
ReplyDeleteNo! The good will triumph! And Patman will soar over the city, Mole at his side, and secure the safety of the people again with a gift of school buses and ordinances that he will not follow himself for all!!!
LOL! Maggot! You are the hero! You have contributed so much, we bow to you.. The problem with Brownsville is having maggots and cowards like you. You contribute nothing, quick to criticize and obviously think you are smart, but idiots like you are a dime a dozen. You are in it for what you can get for yourself, family, and your so like friends. It is amazing you did not get indicted with Villalobos, but I can only assume you sung like a bird and threw Villalobos under the bus. You do not know the meaning of public service. The good thing is I know who you are. Every time I see you, I know the coward you are.. and you look down.. like the coward you are.
ReplyDeleteGood comeback moron....Same song different verse
ReplyDeleteMaggots & cowards & pat oh my...
ReplyDeleteYou are so righteous with the highest morals and ethics, but you will not sign your name. Your integrity is beyond reproach, but you will not sign your name. Your courage speaks volumes, along with your willingness to stand up for what is right. You are the man! But we will not mention you getting family into the public workforce, nor will we mention the other skeletons in your closet at this time. And, of course, I am the worst mayor this city has ever had according to you. We bow to you Mr. Righteous..
ReplyDeletePatman strikes out against injustice again!
ReplyDeleteBut just for clarification: you were the one who wanted to ban texting while driving, and just also admitted that you were texting behind the wheel?
And also, how hard did the state laugh at your ridiculous complaint regarding the buses? And what color crayon did you use to write it?
"You are the man".."Mr. Righteous"...assuming the authors are all men Patricio? Joke is on you.. I am woman, hear me roar....Menso.
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine you as a woman! LOL! That is obscene! What a ugly woman you turned out to be..
ReplyDeleteYes, I wanted and did ban texting and it should be done by the state, because it will save lives. If I remember right the ban came after the stop, but regardless, it is wrong to text and drive. I paid the price..
ReplyDeleteugly? beauty is in the eye of the beholder. we've seen what you behold.
ReplyDeleteYeah, and you are an ugly one..
ReplyDeleteOh Patman, when you are reduced to ad hominems you know you have lost the argument.
ReplyDeleteHmmm! Hominems, yeap! You are more educated than me.. but, you are still ugly...
ReplyDeleteOh! That is not an attack, it is a fact!
ReplyDeleteHey Pat, so did the Republicans miss you? Are they heartbroken to not have your crazy ass around to make them look bad? Cabron, you claiming to be a Republican was probably the best thing to happen for the Democrats in a long time! Lol
ReplyDeleteYou are responding to more than one person, pendejo!
ReplyDeleteNo, the pendejo is you who goes by Anonymous, meaning you are one and the same, because you are made from the same cowards gene. So, one Anonymous who is like minded like you is one and the same pendejo..
ReplyDeleteHominems? I like those in my menudo....patman.
ReplyDeleteHominems? I like those in my menudo....patman.
ReplyDeleteA curb at 4 am is more educated....
ReplyDeleteLOL! Admit it, you hate knowing you are morally bankrupt with no ethics, integrity, nor smart enough to get elected. You like being in the shadows whining and offering nothing. You are not smart enough to do anything, other than being a lacky. It gets to you that your aspirations will never be fulfilled, because you are a self centered nobody..
ReplyDeleteI admit it...waaaaaa.....you are my hero caped crusader...you are the lemon in my tea... the jam on my bread...the peanut butter on my b***s...waaa....
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of being bankrupt in one way or another...cashed any good checks lately, Patman?
ReplyDeleteFor a self centered nobody, he/she sure has Patman's panties in a twist.
ReplyDeleteLOL! You offer nothing, but continue with the personal attack knowing I was exonerated and this happens to many when banking, but when you are a target, the rules change. Or, should we say the double standard comes into play. The jury saw through the politics and our former Police Chief Carlos Garcia, who pushed for the indictment, got egg in his face. Although, he did the damage and you purport it with your personal attacks because you are a coward. At least I tried to make Brownsville a better community and did not buy buildings from friends at fraudulent prices or have family hired by the city like others I know. We will see who laughs last..
ReplyDeleteouch
ReplyDelete"At least I didn't *insert piss poor justification for everybody to have standards as low as yours*"
ReplyDeleteLol. Fail.
I still wanna know what color crayons he used to write the complaint. I am guessing it was pink.
ReplyDeletewhoever takes over as chairman of the local republican party before the novermber general election needs to unite the party again. mr. morris did a good job in the beginning as county chair. we all have different opinions as to local and global issues at present. Brownsville being the poorest city because of the Border and now w/ Obama not putting his practices and deceiving the American people at the present, and not closing the border now we have a crisis. Republicans are not for the rich, we or shall I say I try to make ends meet. We believe in the pledge of allegiance, lower taxes, marriage between a man and a woman, prolife, just to name a few of what we believe. . I grew up in republican household in the early 1960's when my mom was county co chairwoman for Cameron county. she got out of politics in the early 1970's . I remember hearing about Mr. Morris as he was a precinct chair at the time. Before Mr. Morris, we had the following county chairs: Deceased at this time Rusty William Faulk who served as county chair of republican party in 1994, in 1996 we had Anne Shepherd and in 1998 lawyer Rick Hoffman. At this time , I would not criticize the Local Republican Party at all. Somebody will emerge for this spot for County Chair and will take unity and effort to get word out. Joe Rivera has no business being the next county judge he is just going to raise taxes to the ceiling and put his people in office . I pray that this summer can be peaceful and not too hot .
ReplyDeleteLooks like the whole world now knows Tad is a republican! I tell Tad the party will never change locally under Frank Morris who has always sought to maintain control and has killed any efforts to allow the party to grow. It is the caste system in the party, based on Frank Morris. Back when I was in the Republican Party, which I no longer am and have not been since 2004-I brought in Chris Valadez, Eddie Padron, Enrique Escobedo, and many others, but the party under Frank rejected the creation of the Republican National HIspanic Assembly that we created and did everything to undermine it. The result being, the party is only for the select few allowed based on what they perceive to be republican. Oscar Garcia is a good example, when I ran for county judge, Frank Morris and his bunch went out of their way to get me an opponent-Oscar Garcia and made him an instant Republican. Looking back it is laughable, because Oscar was anointed Republican and all the precinct chairs with the County Chairman aligned themselves to beat me, but they really undermined themselves. The laughable part is that Oscar stated in his press release as the anointed one based on his friendship to Tony Garza and boldly said, "I have never voted in my life, because I have been busy with school and family". Imagine, never bothered to vote, because he was too busy, but he was good enough to anoint as a Republican. Now, the other laughable part is that he was anointed again, appointed to District Judge and signed up as a democrat, but when he saw who he had to compete against, quickly abandoned his principals and switched parties out of convenience. Now, this anointed republican, anti-corruption crusader, without principals is Mr. Republican wanting our vote. I would not trust his ethics, integrity, nor principals, as he has proven those ideals are only to be used out of convenience when it suits him. His anti-corruption campaign does not wash and voting democrat is my objection to what the GOP stands for and that is the caste system within the party. Minorities are welcomed, but mostly to meet their quota and to brainwash against the minorities.
ReplyDeleteMeant for this to be a post for the recent blog on TAD's suit..
ReplyDelete
