From the editor: In a solemn, but triumphant occasion, hundreds of well-dressed citizens of Heroica Matamoros filled the large plaza facing the city's historic municipal building to welcome their new El Presidente Municipal, Lic. Jose Alberto Granados Favila.
A military guard presented the flag of Mexico, followed by the playing of the Mexican national anthem and another patriotic song, while the crowd extended their forearms across their chests with an open hand extended in a traditional salute.
A delegation from Brownsville's city government, including City Commissioners Roy de Los Santos, Bryan Martinez, Mario Saenz from the District Attorney's office, Eddie Garcia, candidate for tax collector/assessor and others, offered their support from assigned seating on the front row.
About twenty from the RGV rode in two luxury buses with a police escort across the Gateway International Bridge into the city.
Following the ceremony, the RGV group dined at the legendary Garcia's Restaurant & Bar on Avenue Alvaro Obregon in Matamoros.
We need this type of event here in Brownsville, at Washington Park so that the people/community can go.
