Ruben Herrera with the editor on front row at TSC |
Certainly, you've heard. Another friend, Ruben Herrera, TSC Trustee, has passed away. (We sat together, above, on the front row at the Cameron County Sheriff's Forum recently.
First Ben Neece, now Ruben Herrera. Yes, we're all reminded of our precarious mortality. Ruben, like myself, had recently experienced the life interruption of open heart surgery, but continued living his life.
A notable world traveler and avid motorcyclist, Ruben frequently regaled us with stories from well outside our local realm; Central, South America and beyond.
But, Ruben's passion has long been TSC, Texas Southmost College, where he served as trustee.
As he explained: "I was 28 with two kids and no GED when I talked to a counselor at TSC."
Ruben went on to get a masters degree and a law license while always maintaining a certain humility.
At a post-campaign event to which I wasn't even invited, Ruben was asked to comment on Trey Mendez apparent victory in Brownsville's mayoral contest.
Ruben wheeled around to me and stated: "I'd rather hear what Jim has to say on this."
LMFAO! That was Ruben.
I dont think many people cared about your opinion then and even fewer now. Very typical of you to show up somewhere that you were not invited.
ReplyDeleteTrey?
DeleteLovely lady: Nena Barton.
ReplyDeleteTSC has always helped those students that want to learn and achieve their goals. Many students from Matamoros enter TSC and with their limited English they learn, study and transfer to major Universities to study: math, engineering, medicine, etc
ReplyDeleteRIP ruben
ReplyDeleteGone too soon, Rest in Peace Mr. Herrera, and thank you for your love for TSC and your community.
