MEMORIAL DAY REMINDS ME OF THREE CLASSMATES AND TEAMMATES AT HARLINGEN HIGH SCHOOL WHO WERE KILLED IN ACTION IN VIETNAM AND THUS ARE FOREVER ON THE VIETNAM WALL;
Billy Weaver--the last 4-year football letterman at HHS, killed during his third tour in 'Nam. Billly was apparently killed in Cambodia.
Thomas Eddy--Playfully known as "cheeks" on account of the way he walked. Eddy is said to have been killed by friendly fire.
George Gutierrez--A Cardinal teammate of mine killed when the helicopter was flying was shot out of the sky. A Harlingen city park on Harrison Street is named for him. George had a contagious smile and like Weaver and Eddy was a Cardinal through and through.
When I was in the service I had the honor of standing guard over George's coffin. All these men were Cardinals.
