Lane Closures Near Sherman, TX Stifles Traffic |
Sherman, Texas occupies no place in my heart, but it's a hard day's drive from Brownsville and that makes it a layover en route to somewhere more interesting.
I should have listened to Ana who suggested we go through Houston, then Arkansas, a route that would have been infinitely better than San Antonio, Austin, Waco, Sherman.
In my view Sherman and nearby Dennison are in that rural Oklahoma orbit occupied by scrufty, hard-assed folk like the counter clerk we asked about tooth paste.
"If it ain't on the shelf, we ain't got it," she told us with all the customer service skills she could muster.
Lake Eufaula |
Anyway, we got back on the road by 4:05 AM, the same time as the day before and, by the time the sun rose, we were scooting by huge Lake Eufaula on our way to Iowa.
A wrong turn took us through some quaint towns in Kansas, but my co-pilot studied the map and said that the error hadn't made our trip longer, just different.
It was almost 6 PM when we made it to our accommodations in Oskaloosa, Iowa where Ana will be working for the next view weeks.
