FACT-CHECKING THE MARTINEZ CHARGE THAT CABLER IS UNDER POLICE INVESTIGATION

The Tony Martinez campaign has turned Trump-like in recent days with negative, dirty mailouts aimed at both Trey Mendez and Charlie Cabler, Martinez's opponents in the May 4 city election.

The mayor's primary charge against Mendez involves the $13.1 million tentatively awarded to former TSC President Lily Tercero.  Of course, not a penny of that has been paid as the case is on appeal.

Tony's anti-Cabler mailout suggests that the former city manager is "under police investigation" for his role in the private ambulance service to which emergency calls were diverted.

Interestingly, that same Brownsville Police Department recently endorsed Cabler for Mayor.  Does it seem reasonable that he would get such and endorsement were he "under investigation" by the department?

Actually, former Police Chief Orlando Rodriguez, in a recent internet message, clearly states that Charlie Cabler "was never the target of the criminal investigation surrounding the private ambulance company."

We post the Rodriguez message below:

We don't know the motivation for the mayor's recent plunge into a dirty campaign.  Perhaps, he's looking at poll numbers that are not to his liking.
