CITY COMMISSIONER AT LARGE A~BROWNSVILLE'S GREAT CATTLE DRIVE UNDERWAY!

Not since the great cattle drives of the 19th century, have we heard the  thunderous sound of hooves heading for a single destination.

This herd is not moving toward a stockyard, corral or slaughterhouse, but to the City Secretary's office to duly register for an as-yet-unannounced city election for City Commissioner At-Large, Place A.(Actually, all but one of the eventual candidates will be slaughtered, but that's nearly 120 days down the line.)

Cesar de Leon's departure left, not only a vacant seat, a void on the commission, but broke up the threesome of Neece, Tetreau-Kalifa and de Leon, that was starting to have their way, needing only that 4th vote to get something done.

So, prospective candidates are viewed, not so much as a messiah, but as a prospective member of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, riding roughshod over the delta terrain.

Let's round up the cattle that, so far, are making serious noises about running for this suddenly vacated position:

Ernie L. Hernandez, Jr.~longtime politician, lastly County Commissioner, Precinct 2.
Martin Sarkis~local businessman, former candidate for City Commission
Michael Gonzalez~attorney, former candidate for City Commission
Nurith Galonsky~PUB board member, attorney, daughter of Abraham Galonsky
Chino Villarreal~
Ismael Hinojosa~attorney
Kevin Barajas~
Erasmo Castro~former candidate for mayor, blogger
Arturo Trevino~businessman

The herd is not complete.  We've heard that Judge Elia Lopez and BISD Trustee Sylvia Atkinson are jointly searching for prospective candidate.  Elia's husband Leo, we understand, prefers a salaried position.

Carlos Marin is reportedly consulting with Matamoros interests to agree on a suitable bovine, I mean candidate.

Please note:  If any mentioned here "as running" wish to be culled from the herd, that is they're not running, please message this blog accordingly and your name will be removed.

  2. "There's even a move backed by Southmost tordo tortillero Rick Longoria to push for Armando Treviño, a former candidate for mayor of Matamoros, as De Leon's replacement. Treviño – whose family is escaping the violence in our sister city – is the owner of "Los Trevis" drive-through stores around town. With Joel Munguia in his pocket and Treviño to give him the third vote, Longoria could rest assured he will continue to receive his crumbs in the form of DJ gigs for the city and the exclusive city salesman of Charro Days outfits."

    Is this fucker a citizen?
