The editor of this blog feels no particular sympathy for the 52.46% of this overwhelmingly Hispanic county who foolishly and ignorantly voted for a convicted rapist, fraudster and racist for President in 2024.  Much like the "Moonies" of the 70's, the followers of the People's Temple, those misled by Waco's David Koresh and today's residents of North Korea, you were duped, tricked and fooled by a con man to take a stand against your own interests.

In case you've not noticed, your elected Lord and Saviour has taken a wrecking ball to this country's government since taking office 228 days ago and now he's converting employees from a number of government agencies, 14,518 so far, into goons for ICE, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Most notably, Trump has perverted the purpose of the USCIS, the entity charged with administering lawful immigration, issuing Green Cards, work visas, asylum, family unification and international adoptions into "special agents" for ICE, carrying firearms, making arrests and executing warrants.

Don't complain my friends falling for a false claim of "Making America Great."  Just remember, you fell for this bull shit as you watch neighbors and relatives deported to any country Trump can pay to take them.

Anyway, here's the breakdown of the government employees so far diverted into the ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations(ERO) with numbers provided by the Cato Institute:

  • ICE HSI: 6,198
  • FBI: 2,840

  • Drug Enforcement Administration: 2,181

  • Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco and Explosives: 1,778

  • U.S. Marshals Service: 650

  • Border Patrol: 335

  • Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations: 288

  • Department of State – Diplomatic Security: 93

  • CBP Air and Marine Operations: 68

  • Department of Defense: 35

  • IRS: 20

  • Bureau of Prisons: 11

  • U.S. Secret Service: 1

  • Local, state law enforcement agencies: 8,500+

A spokesperson for the American Immigration Lawyers Association stated the obvious:

“Congress established USCIS after 9/11 to process legal immigration applications. Enforcement actions were left to other agencies to ensure that immigrants felt safe submitting their personal information and appearing for interviews,” said AILA President Jeff Joseph. “The administration’s continued attacks on those who are following the rules will only serve to push people further into the shadows.”

Jason Houser, a former senior Department of Homeland Security official, echoed these concerns. “This move is calculated at best to scare people, and at worst, it’s a really dangerous escalation of law enforcement that’s completely unnecessary at USCIS.”

Obviously, these personnel transfers will erode trust in our legal immigration process, but that's exactly what Trump wants and what a majority of Cameron County's electorate voted for.
