The Brownsville Tigers was one of several semi-professional teams in the city in the 1940s. Frank was the first baseman on the squad and on this day were crossing bats with the Kansas City Monarchs.

Pancho claimed he was safe, but the umpire decided otherwise.

While sliding into first, Curtis Searcey of the Monarchs took the throw from second for the put out in swirl of dust.

This bit of action was the second out in the eighth inning of the first game of a Sunday double header. The game was played at the Charro Park on the grounds of St. Joseph’s Academy; not to be confused with the Lions Park, El “36” (and known as Charro Park as well) on St Francis St.

The Tigers won both games on that day!
