Perusing the online publication, Matamoros Nota, we gleaned some notable excerpts from Saturday's speech by Lic. Jose Alberto Granados Favila, more commonly known as Beto Granados, after taking the oath of office as Matamoros' new municipal president.
Granados states that he's "ready to face the biggest challenge of his life" and that he "has the ability, the support of the people and the blessing of God" and that he will start working "from the first minute of October 1."
Granados promises to "eradicate corruption" and to "make Matamoros the best city in Tamaulipas."
The new president mentioned garbage collection, pothole patching, improved lighting in urban and suburban areas, cleaner green areas and "public services up to the demands of citizens" so "Matamoros has a better image."
"Abuses by police and traffic officers will not be tolerated. All traffic officers caught commiting extortion will be sanctioned," he promised. (I did not notice any reference to the cartels, but I'll gladly correct this report if necessary.)
