From the editor:  In my July 26 interview of BISD Board President Jessica Gonzalez, we discussed the sale and transfer of the Brownsville Learning Center complex(formerly Cummings Middle School) to the City of Brownsville as part of an expansion of the Gladys Porter Zoo.

BISD Board President Jessica Gonzalez

Gonzalez made clear that BISD would be looking for sufficient compensation from the city to construct replacement buildings on another BISD campus.  There was no hint of those buildings being sold for a mere pittance, but that the selling price would adequately compensate BISD for the loss of the B
rownsville Learning Center facility.

Now, some are alarmed that BISD might give the city a "sweetheart" deal that will not appropriately compensate the taxpayers for the monies that have been sunk into the former middle school to transform it into a well-equipped work training and technical center for students.

Below are some comments from the Facebook page of Jas Marie Reyes that include comments by BISD Board Member Carlos Elizondo and former city administrator/real estate aficionado Ramiro Gonzalez.

FB Friends: BISDs Cummings Middle School is on the agenda for Wednesday, August 21. Already, the City of Brownsville, TX - Municipal Government ex employee, turned Downtown Real Estate Developer Ramiro Gonzalez is showing an interest 👀.
Remember, Ramiro Gonzalez left COB to benefit from free monies and grants for his business ventures and employer. OrigoWorks - Ramiro Gonzalez went on Mr. Carlos Elizondo Melguizo page to criticize Mr. Elizondo's post, but quickly deleted it right after everyone, and me, called him out. 👇👇 Gonzalez knows the millions he can get from this deal and his buddies in the City. 💰💰 It's all connected.
Will Daniela Lopez Valdez also gain 💰💰💰. She is listed as the one running The Mitte Cultural District in Brownsville, right where Cummings MS is.
Thank you to Mr. Carlos Elizondo for speaking up!

  1. Carlos as usual out of touch. He wants a majority to do what he knows best and that's personal gain. Wouldn't be a surprise to relive what happened to him at the City. Orange won't be a surprise!

  3. BISD should not sell this property nor none of their properties: they need to build new schools for the future. Gardens to study biology, small aqueducts to study water, telescopes to study the sky, kitchens to study nutrition, a small hospital to study the body: yep, put those elementary and middle school students to discover the world when their brains are like sponges.

  4. Common Barton, this guy is lucky he isn’t in jail….. and you support him, no way jose, the best thing for the BISD to do is get this area of their hands, this gentleman is only trying to gain political power for his own interest, he’s defiantly a dark force in this situation and as Doc Scully has mentioned he’s on the wrong side of this situation once again. people should be ashamed they voted for him….
