While Tony Yzaguirre has been entrenched in the Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector office for 35 years, challenger Eddie Garcia is not a newbie, but someone whose toil for the City of Brownsville actually parrallel's Yzaguirre's service, but in different roles.

After a 6 year stint in the U.S. Air Force, Garcia worked 32 years for the Brownsville Police Department, 20 years leading the Brownsville City Employees Credit Union and 4 years on the BISD board.

When asked how county tax assessing and collecting would be different under his leadership, Garcia's answer was short:  "Customer service."

During a campaign event at Dk's Stix and Stuff on Ruben Torres Boulevard Saturday, Garcia said the same thing and entertained complaints from county patrons about long lines at county tax offices.

"My emphasis will not be just Brownsville, but improving service in all of Cameron County," Garcia told me at the event.

"Yes, we have several satellite offices in various places, but they don't all offer the same services," added Garcia.
