Juan Montoya of El Rrun Rrun |
Juan Montoya of El Rrun Rrun totally misrepresented, mischaracterized an occurrence at the Cameron County Women's Forum .
Montoya's article ran the headline RINCONES STORMS OUT OF DEMOCRATIC WOMEN'S FORUM: IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE HEAT. . .
OK. I was there. Montoya, of course, was not.
Montoya's description of what took place at the forum was woefully inaccurate, perhap's influenced by Attorney John Shergold's recollection.(Shergold is an El Rrun Rrun advertiser and also a friend of mine.)
No one "stormed out" of the forum, particularly 445th District Court Judge Gloria Rincones.
What actually happened was that Attorney John Shergold, Rincones' opponent for the 445th District Court judgeship, wanted to publicly discuss Rincones' handling of a matter involving SpaceX, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and the Open Beaches Act.
Rincones simply stated that since that matter was still under consideration in her court, it would not be appropriate for her be present if the matter was being discussed in the forum. She offered to step out for a minute which she did, quietly without fanfare. No one "stormed out."
Shergold started to talk before Rincones could physically make her exit, but was cautioned by forum moderator Teresa Saldivar to hold off until Rincones was outside the room.
In a few minutes, after Shergold had made his point, Rincones returned. No fuss or "storming out."
Montoya's reporting on this matter was simply untrue, a lie.
Now, personally, I might take a position differing with Judge Rincones decision about SpaceX's use and misuse of our beach, but I don't appreciate the total misrepresentation of the "incident" in El Rrun Rrun.
Was a women's forum the best place for Shergold to air his differences with Rincones?
