It appears that my comments regarding the Port of Brownsville has caught the attention of a few folks, including some sitting Port Commissioners asking, what conflicts is he talking about?
I have heard for years the conflicts occurring which can include a vast variety of scenarios, but all have a common denominator....all include the appearance of self interest or those of family members, to include leases, trucking, diesel sales, jobs to name a few.
Is it happening? I would venture to say in all liklihood.
Are these transactions & relationships, illegal? Probably not, however, they may very well be unethical.
This race has always flown under the radar with little voter excitement & participation.
Maybe its time we change that & place this election at the same level of importance as other races....let the light shine in.
Folks, the Port has been a private club for way too long. It has become a private, taxpayer funded travel agency for many.
Elections have come & gone with little fanfare & under the radar. It would appear that indivduals without experience or the credentials are getting appointed to high level positions because of family relationships.
As long as taxpayers are funding part of the operations, we have a voice.
Want change? Get involved, vote...ask the tough questions...hold each & every one accountable...& yes the Port is an economic juggernaut for our area, but think of how much better it could be.
