From the editor: This article is written with friends in mind old enough to remember the Beatles interaction with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in 1967.

All of us older guys, especially those who used to frequent the Crescent Moon in downtown Brownsville back in the day will remember that period.

I'm thinking about guys like Tony Zavaleta, Tom Robinson, Ben Neece, Mark Clark, Jerry McHale, Juan Montoya, Rene Torres, Emilio Crixell, John Strubelt and my friend in Little Rock, Keith Wine.

We all can regurgitate the story: Paul got disillusioned early.  Ringo couldn't handle the food.  John found the Mararishi to be less than spiritual, "chasing skirt just like we were" when he put a hit on Mia Farrow.

George, of course, stayed on the longest before leaving.

I bring this up because just today, on the way back from shopping in Ottumwa, Iowa, Ana and I came across the campus of Mararishi International University, just outside Fairfield, Iowa.

The Mararishi established the university in Fairfield, Iowa in 1974 including the Dome of Pure Knowledge in which practitioners of TM, transcendental meditation, could practice that discipline.

The Yogi died in 2008 at the age of at least 90, 91 or 95, depending on which birth date is recognized.
