Donald J. Trump |
"IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I'M COMING AFTER YOU!!!" posted Trump on Truth Social a day after his last arraignment.
Years from now it's doubtful Donald J. Trump will make the list of "Our Most Intelligent Presidents."
After three indictments and reportedly $40 to $60M in legal debt, the Former Guy continues to be his own worst enemy.
As an arraigned felony suspect currently avoiding jail on a pre-trial release, Trump is in an incredibly precarious position, something like that of a mountain climber who's just watched a huge pile of rocks slide out from under his feet.
If he doesn't watch his step, he's going down.

Special Counsel Jack Smith |
Trump has been warned before, most recently by no-nonsense Special Counsel Jack Smith to not talk shit, but the human excrement continues to stream from Trump's mouth.
Jack Smith is not one of Trump's giddy, brainwashed MAGA followers and he's about to shorten Trump's chain.
Smith was pretty direct in a statement four days ago:
"The attack on our nation's capitol on January 6, 2021, was an unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy. As described in the indictment, it was fueled with lies, lies by the defendant targeted at obstructing a bedrock function of the U.S. government."
A Trump campaign spokesperson tried to walk back Trump's remarks above as if they weren't intended for the prosecutor in his case:
“The Truth post cited is the definition of political speech, and was in response to the RINO, China-loving, dishonest special interest groups and Super PACs, like the ones funded by the Koch brothers and the Club for No Growth,” stated the campaign operative.
Jack Smith responded almost immediately by asking Judge Tanya Chutkan for a protective order prohibiting Trump from sharing documents from the case with the media.
To reference an extremely worn-out cliche, Jack Smith seems to be playing 4D chess while Trump toys with an upside down checker board.
Why should he conform, what are they going to do to him for failure to comply? It is not likely they will jail him without a criminal conviction and even then its probably unlikely. Fine him? He just won't pay and I doubt they will attach bank accounts or assets to make good. Besides, he will just keep it tied up in appeals, paid for by his base of supporters. The only consequence to non-compliance will be sentencing following a conviction. They can punish his pre-trial behavior with additional jail time of a higher fine. But I don't think he will ever go to jail. In home confinement and an ankle monitor and a big fine is the most likely punishment.
ReplyDeleteAnd when he gets off easier than people with lesser offenses we will hear phrases like "for the good of the country" and "so healing can begin" and "in the interest of bringing unity to the country".
Of course, it was this alleged striving for unity that brought us to this point. Democrats caving to republicans in Florida for instance and taking the presidency from Gore in the interest of unity. Well, I'm at the point of fuck unity, no more appeasement. Maybe we need to fight it out. Send him to prison and if his supporters commit crimes while expressing their displeasure, send them, too. If they go civil war treat them like combatants. Afford them their civil rights, give them due process.
