Existing border wall near Los Indios, TX |
As most Brownsvillians know, Boca Chica Blvd going west becomes Hwy 281, a scenic way to get "up Valley," a road I've always loved.
The towns along 281 are tiny and easy to miss; Ranchito, La Paloma, Los Indios, Bluetown and finally Progreso.
Progreso stands just across the Rio Grande from Nuevo Progreso, a city winter Texans much prefer to Matamoros.
Mayra Flores |
Los Indios' recent claim to fame is that it's the home of Mayra Flores, who briefly served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 196 days from 6/21/22 to 1/3/23.
Mayra lives in Los Indios with four kids and her Border Patrol husband.
Unless she sends them to a private or charter school, her kids are in the San Benito school district.
Mayra lost her spot in the House to Vicente Gonzalez, but is fighting to regain it.
Her positions on issues mirror those of Donald Trump meaning she offers nothing to the Valley.
Addendum: In the interest of accuracy, let me publish this comment below from a concerned reader;
Get your facts straight Jim, Mayra lives at 3308 Cornell St. in McAllen in District 15. She hasn’t lived in Los Indios since before she got married. Mayra is a cotton picking liar.
Honestly, I've not followed Mayra much, but, if she actually lives in McAllen, Brownsville voters need that information.
In my view, it's impossible to represent the interests of both cities evenhandedly.
A McAllenite, even a transplant from Los Indios, would have trouble gauging the needs of Brownsvillians.
A vote for Mayra is a wasted vote in terms of Brownsville representation.
