CASCOS THANKS VOTERS FOR REJECTING ARENA

Carlos Cascos

T
o all that voted yesterday, thank you.

For those that joined me in voting against the County Arena, a bigger thank you.

Again, my issue was not political, partisan, or personal, it was simply a financial concern that wasn’t being addressed.

The #s being disseminated by the County Judge & Commissioners just didn’t support the initiative, and as the County Judge stated in the article, they are contemplating placing it back on the ballot in 6 months, the #s won’t make sense then either.

Although the monies, had this $100M bond issue passed, could only be used for the Arena, there was no language prohibiting future Commissions from transferring money from the general fund, other funds, or raising taxes to subsidize any shortfalls.

Current commissioners court cannot control what future commissioners can do. I would suggest the County Commission make the feasibility study public, hold community meetings throughout the County for public input & be upfront with the taxpayers.

Based on the Commissions’ track record over the last couple of years, self-serving raises, covid voucher distributions, lack of freeze preparations, arbitrary selective closings of businesses, admonishing residents during flooding etc... it’s no wonder, trust in our Commissioner’s Court is waning.

  1. Big shout out to all the citizens of Cameron County that voted against this. Trey Mendez, Ramiro Gonzalez, Dennis Sanchez and others will have to work for their money instead of sucking it from the County. Enough is enough. Just look at who owns the land where they want to build the event center. That will tell you everything.

  4. Carlos has never been against the arena, let’s be clear. The issue has brought up, the issue that Eddie Treviño has told us not to worry, that it will not affect the taxpayer. That is what Carlos Cascos has been saying. Cascos has said the way they propose to pay for this 100 million dollar project is not true, the numbers do not add up. It was Eddie Treviños job to make that clear to the voter. A trust me will not do it Judge Treviño. Your past actions and the ones of the other commissioners do not merit a “trust me”.
