Local political operative Rey Montanaro makes a case for a new, improved, "changed" Pat Ahumada as a replacement for Jessica Tetreau-Kalifa as the City Commissioner in District 2.
The prospect of someone radically changing their personality or modus operandi is not consistent with my seventy years of life experience. I've seen arrogant, pompous asses, seemingly humbled my some grave misstep in life, only to resume arrogance in the proverbial New York minute once forgiven and empowered again

Pat had something that's been lacking on the City Commission since his departure; ideas, the Brownsville-Matamoros Reservoir Project,
the renovation of El Jardin Hotel utilizing federal funding participation.
Little wonder that Ahumada couldn't create consensus among city commissioners he referred to as "blocking lineman," calling himself the "quarterback."
Pat had dumb ideas too, like his tireless promotion of Fly Frontera Airlines, formed just 4 days before the scheduled city commission meeting to approve the deal. It's never been revealed but then Commissioner Melissa Zamora leaked the proposed contract to members of the Brownsville Cheezmeh political advocacy group who met at Craig Grove's home, Dino X. Chavez, Laura Miniel, Nena Barton and others discovered a ridiculously vendor friendly contract with the City of Brownsville obligated to pay for every unsold ticket, making empty, lighter planes flying to destinations in Mexico the most profitable for the fledgling airline as well as city paying outrageous startup fees so Fly Frontera could lease planes, buy fuel, etc.
Rey Montanaro gave my day some hilarity with this opening to his statement on why Tetreau-Kalifa should be replace with Ahumada:
"To all my friends and family in District 2, I’m reaching out to you and sharing my frustration with our current City Commissioner. While I’ve felt disappointed for some time now, this week’s rainfall and flooding has further underscored that we need a change of leadership."
I came to Brownsville in the mid-sixties. The same areas that flooded then, flood now. Before Tetreau or Montanaro were born, I learned to drive my '59 Volkswagen through 3 feet of water at four corners by depressing the clutch, lowering the back pressure on the two submerged tailpipes and coasting through.
OK, Jim. What about the $24,000 check, earmarked for the City of Brownsville, Ahumada deposited in his personal checking account?
I don't believe Pat on this as a search in archives of this blog will show, even though he was not convicted of theft. My recollection is that reports showed Pat's checking account was $180 in arrears at the time of the check's deposit, that albout $6,000 of the money was spent before the check was discovered missing and that the money was replaced AFTER, NOT BEFORE then Brownsville Police Chief Garcia confronted Ahumada about the missing check.
As Diego Lee Rot told me: "Pat knew the money was in a safe place."
Still, it would be interesting to turn to Brownsville TV/Channel 12 on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday every month and see an actual discussion of issues, not a mere rubber stamping of agenda items.
Electing Pat Ahumada might accomplish that.

ReplyDeleteI am friends with Rey Montanro but I lost all respect for him when I saw this. I know he is neighbors with Charlie "who ate the Chocolate factory" Cabler, but c'mon. Charlie has always been a big supporter of Pat Ahumada and I'm wondering if any promises of a returning city manager have been made? Pat Ahumada could not even make a dent in Antonio "Tony" Martinez during his last race. We the people have spoken over and over. We the people will support Jessica Kalifa and all incumbents who drove these "clowns" of of town.

DeleteOne, moron troll, I sued Montoya such as others have and I got $60,000 for his defamation. Mike Hernandez who is suing me and has sued to others to silence them has no lawsuit in defamation against me. Montoya knows that but he can rely on trolls like you to believe him. What there is is a lawsuit against me wherein no where in the lawsuit am I quoted as having said anything against Mike Hernandez either in writing or spoken. But trolls hate facts and love defamers. Mike has sued two others and he did to them exactly what he did to me. He immediately sent a settlement that I could never speak of him and he would dismiss the lawsuit. Obviously you support such tactics using the courts to silence valid speech. The other two signed, I did not and now Mike is out about $100,000 in attorney's fees and has accomplished nothing. He is facing two sanction motions at the trial court. One for lying under oath, and one for his attorneys lying about the facts. Both claims are based on emails written by Mike Hernandez. If Mike were not paying Montoya to defame Montoya would still be attacking him as a con artist. You watch when Montoya gets served with the federal lawsuit over the matter, he will run, like he has in the past to avoid service. Try putting your name to your posts troll.

Last time i checked had more properties than most people.. he choses to live with his parents in a very nice estate because of personal reasons, if he wanted to he could very easily move into one of his properties or buy one or two- im sure that house he lives in is worth at least 3 or 4 .. so why is he a loser again?? DeleteI usually do not participate im blogs, much less reply to anonymous posts, but i will make an exception today. First of all, i am glad you are aware that i am close to my father. We have done very well and continue to reside together- i see that as a blessing. I have worked.hard since i was young, i was not given anything. I dont mind being called a loser, but give a valid reason.. living with parents is a personal choice, just like not finishing college was.. i chose not to finish and i am.doing better because of it. We own over 20 properties, believe me, if i wanted to buy a home of my own i would. I have never been arrested, never physically assulted anyone, and never needed to run for public office to make a living or a "fool" out of myself or my family. Im willing to invest my time, my money, and my energy because i beliveve in Pat and in our city. If you ever want this "loser" to give you a tour or possibly a lesson on success let me know, i would be glad to.

She is so rude when I rescued her dogs. ReplyDeleteI''ve never been a big fan of Jessica Tetreu Kalifa until I saw her stand up to Charlie Cabler for allowing the corruption that has plauged us taxpayers since Pat Ahumada brought him to town. Kalifa and Neece are the only hope we have to move this city forward with their Audit group. I am new to her voter base and on a fixed income as an employee of BISD but I will be making a contribution to help her overcome Ahumada.
