After 50 Years, We're Back into Wine Making

We found this old pic from nearly a half-century ago. Nena was about 8-1/2 months pregnant with our son, known locally as Diego Lee Rot. We were in Yell County, Arkansas, doing some volunteer work.

Our transportation was an indestructible 50's Ford panel truck with a wooden floor bed, two front seats and two fold-down beds in the back.

Yell County was dry, so I learned to make wine from Welch's frozen grape juice concentrate.

Many years later, Diego and I got into making beer, a Porter Stout, using hops from Washington State.  We had all the equipment and capped our beer in 22 ounce Corona bottles.

Diego's recent venture into apple cider has inspired me to try my hand once again at grape wine.  The bottle at left is fermenting like crazy.  In a week or so, we will test the results and make our report.

Diego, who can weld, braze or whatever, is talking about a still.  We need to find available starches, sugars.
