September 21, 2017 was a fateful day in Brownsville, filled with all kinds of synchronicity, irony and racial apology.
State Representative Eddie Lucio III, in a ceremony at Texas Southmost College, honored "colored" troops stationed at Fort Brown.(Of course, racial hatred created an incident in 1906 where 167 "colored" soldiers of the 25th Infantry Regiment, were falsely accused of killing a white bartender and a white police officer, costing them pensions and preventing them from ever serving in civil service jobs. The case aroused national outrage in both black and white communities.)
On this same day, September 21, 2017, City Commissioner Cesar de Leon "apologized" for calling two black men hired by the District Attorney's office "fucking niggers" in a story reported in the Brownsville Herald.
While we're in the synchronicity mode, let's consider the song "September" by Earth, Wind and Fire, recorded in 1978. Incredibly, the song is about September 21:
"September"
by
EARTH, WIND AND FIRE
Do you remember the
21st night of September?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away
Our hearts were ringing
In the key that our souls were singing.
As we danced in the night,
Remember how the stars stole the night away
Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day
Ba duda, ba duda, ba duda, badu
Ba duda, badu, ba duda, badu
Ba duda, badu, ba duda
My thoughts are with you
Holding hands with your heart to see you
Only blue talk and love,
Remember how we knew love was here to stay
Now December found the love we shared in September.
Only blue talk and love,
Remember the true love we share today
Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day
There was a
Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - golden dreams were shiny days
The bell was ringing, aha
Our souls were singing
Do you remember
Never a cloudy day
There was a
Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day
There was a
Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - golden dreams were shiny days
Ba de ya de ya de ya
Ba de ya de ya de ya
ba de ya de ya de ya
De ya
Ba de ya de ya de ya
Ba de ya de ya de ya
Twilight Zone shit there Jimbo!
