A Few Additional Details About Mark Sossi's Firing

For the past six years this blog has relentlessly pushed for the termination of City Attorney Mark Sossi, not based on any personality clash, but simply on his obvious lack of ethics.

"Brownsville deserves better!" we kept intimating.

On Tuesday August 15, Sossi was terminated.

The reported vote was 5-2, but that is not possible. The City Charter only allows for the mayor to vote in the case of a tie.  There was no tie, thus 4-2.

Commissioner Rick Longoria's "no" vote to terminate was not surprising.  When has Rick ever stood up for Brownsville's interests or Southmost's?  He was more than willing to relinquish his district's precious Lincoln Park to the ultra-rich University of Texas, moving his constituents to frolick, barbecue and play in a "new" park next to a smelly sewer plant.  P.U.B. allowed D.J. Rick to provide audio for their propaganda video about the miraculous new chemicals that would dissipate the sewer stench for Southmost residents.

New Commissioner Joe Munguia also voted "no!" Young Joe let Brownsville down with this vote to retain someone with such obvious ethical challenges.  We will not enumerate those for Joe in this article.  He can educate himself by typing "Sossi" in this blog's search feature.

As Montoya reported, after the vote to terminate, Sossi was escorted out of the commission chambers by an officer from the Brownsville Police Department.

What I've not seen reported is that another officer was guarding Sossi's former office as the computer he has used for City of Brownsville business was confiscated.  It remains to be seen if some sort of charges will be filed against Sossi.
