City Attorney Mark Sossi (Caricature by Nena) |
Many of us, without the debilitation of three strokes and a seizure episode and the associated memory loss, wish we could forget the extraordinarily unethical city attorney, Mark Sossi.
Sossi, who came to Brownsville with a well-deserved bad reputation, after stealing $167, 363 from a previous employer, pocketing $20,711.63 earmarked for employee unemployment benefits, then, once in Brownsville, encountered two malpractice lawsuits, huge liens from the I.R.S., and alleged involvement in a scam to defraud Brownsville businessmen, the so-called "Bannergate."
All the while the City Attorney was under contract with the City of Brownsville for legal services at the rate of $10,000 per month or $120,000 per year and with a city board dispersing tax dollars for economic development, the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation, at the rate of $5,000 per month or $60,000 per year.
Recently, the City Commission, with their heads totally in the sand over Sossi's lack of ethics, rewarded him by making him a full-fledged city employee with benefits.
A motion was made by Rick Longoria, seconded by Cesar de Leon and unanimously approved by the City Commission to make Mark Sossi a city employee with full benefits. This foolish action, not in the city's best interests, may have been prompted by Sossi's recent fathering of a child with a woman he recently met in a strip club. The benevolent city commissioners may have had the interests of the child in mind, not so much protecting the city from the dangers of incompetent, unethical legal advice.
Sossi's good fortune in finally being made a full-fledged city employee despite his many ethical transgressions may be tempered by his likely loss of the contract to be GBIC's legal eagle.
Agenda item #8 for the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation's meeting schedule for 2/16/17 is all about replacing Sossi in his $5,000 per month, $60,000 per year gig with the GBIC. The agenda item reads:
8. Discussion and action to grant the Interim Executive Director authority to solicit Requests for Proposal and curriculum vitae for legal services to the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation.
As a GBIC board member stated:
"Well, I think he might be instructing us to make changes that are not proper. He green lights things that shouldn't be done, and even worse- they are his suggestions. He thinks he's a board member himself."
Thanks Jim for the reporting. I don't always agree with your bullshit liberal views but I appreciate and respect what you do. I suggest you add a pay pal donation option for this blog. I would be happy to contribute. The local media (Brownsville Herald) is funded by the people they should be investigating.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised he wasn't fired when he slept with Judge Ben Neece's girlfriend and got the commissioners sued for it.
ReplyDeleteIt's Amanda MacDonald...she's known for the trail of disaster and ruin left in her wake. Actually, she might be a pretty effective defense. Call it the Amanda Effect: Where She Does Wrong and Everybody Else Pays the Price
DeleteSo now Eddie trevino is going to end up the GBIC attorney while he continues to get paid over $300,000.00 from PUB?
ReplyDeleteWe have reached an all time low for good local governance, with a city manager that is supposed to be an at will employee, but is now a contract employee with a huge severance pay package that violates city charter, thanks to Eddie Trevino and those on the commission who sold out the city for votes.
ReplyDeleteThis is the same city manager with Pete Gonzalez and Police Chief Carlos Garcia who went all out to send me to prison for 30 years for their failures to keep track of a check in their charge and destroyed the log that proved who took the check, but then tried to frame me. The same police chief who went all out after me, also framed another person by withholding evidence resulting in prison time for the person affected, which was later discovered. Took a year to get the person out of prison and the city had to pay huge amount of money for wrongful prosecution and civil rights violation.
Then you have all the other deals that are known and unknown, which goes to show how unchecked bad government destroys people and our community. The loss opportunities as a result from bad representation undermines our potential. I was always trying to make our community better and safer, always looking for solutions to our needs and getting the funding to do the things needed, while these leaders are waiting for things to happen and spending like if there is no tomorrow.
Now I hear we have a contract city attorney who is supposed to be an at will employee, which shows how our standards on the commission have been lowered and is undermining our city charter and good government. In all my life, I have never seen the city so mismanaged and misrepresented on the commission by self serving individuals.
I do not see good civic business people running for office with a commitment to serve to make our city the agenda. We now have Erasmo Castro running for Place-B and William Garza for Place 3, which is not much of a choice in my opinion. Is this the best our city can offer as leadership? If so, then nothing will change.
I stood up to special interests, but in the end failed. I have discouraged two of my friends from running for the city commission based on what I see today. This city is not worth saving when voters do not care to vote, politiqueros sell themselves and are complicit to what we have today governing us, and voters could care less as long as they get their pet projects like the sports park and bike trails, both good projects, but not when you go over budget by $20 (million) sacrificing streets, our zoo, other needs and priorities for a minority group's special interests.
There is nothing wrong with differences of opinion, disagreeing and pushing personal agendas, but there is something wrong when our elected leaders are too weak to do what is right or are part of the personal agendas driven by people like Carlos Marin and special interest. When have we ever seen the many deals cut on behalf of special interest as we see today with this city manager and commission? The next deal will probably be the garbage collection contract that is probably linked to someone on the commission, as we saw the Casa Nylon and other deals with this administration.
Poor Pat he's totally insane
DeleteAhumada you are just lucky not innocent, you know and we know that
DeletePat, Jim's article debunks every vile word that just came out of your mouth. It says they are firing Sossi... something you and your administration chose not to do.
ReplyDeleteAnother long winded pat blow job. When are you going to get your own blog ? What happened to your big radio show? Seems like you are trying to use this blog to mount your comeback. Ain't going to happen buddy so fuck off. You are boring. They only go after you because you are a well known drunk driver. If I was a cop, I would follow you for public safety. You and your guilty friend Tony izaguirre belong in jail.
ReplyDeletesame old, same old.
ReplyDeleteRead my post, I wrote "I hear" we now have a contract city attorney, which implies I do not have first hand confirmation. Obviously, you do not know how to read. Then you attack me for everything and anything, which shows your ignorance again. Then you assume I am hosting a radio blog, which I decided to turn down based on my limited time and not wanting to commit to something I cannot dedicate the time. Then you assume I want to run for office, which I have no interest in doing so. Then you get up set because I submit a post, which shows you are obsessed with me and the person who is sick is you. The Blog site has the discretion to post what I write or not, therefore, take your objections to my posts with Jim Barton. You also find me boring, but obviously you are obsessed in reading what I write and launching a tirade of attacks, which tells me I hit a nerve that drives you nuts. LOL! Sign your name loser.....
ReplyDeleteDid pat say special interest? Ha, like your failed bag tax special interest? Ken Paxton served you up on a plate. Do you really beleave your own drunken rants? No body takes you seriously. But I do like the comedy. Thanks Jim.
ReplyDeleteI was the ONLY ONE to oppose hiring Sossi you idiot.
ReplyDeleteListen here, Patman: people give you shit even when, like a broken clock, you manage to be right about some things twice a day. But even when you are right, you still have a little black penis growing out of your head.
DeleteBut still, inquiring minds want to know. Did that curb just jump out in front of you when you were driving and texting?
OH WAIT.....that was your pet project. BANNING texting and driving.
Very hypocritical to be driving the Patmobile and texting and victimizing innocent curbs and taxpayer property. Shame...
Who is this Mr. Herpes?
ReplyDeletePat Ahumada Is just as tainted as Mark E. Sossi pants. Fools who took advantage of any and every situation they've ever been put in.

ReplyDeleteIdiot, moron???? These are the words that come from a man who expects respect? Mr. Ahumada has never understood the concept of give respect to earn it.
ReplyDeleteYou are the reason good people do not want to seek office and your holy than thou pedestal does not wash. Learn to respect other people's posts, opinions and what they have to say, even if you disagree. But, like I said morons like you do not know how to read and then you start blasting. If you had read Jim's post it stated the city commission awarded Sossi a city employee contract, but that he would lose the GBIC gig that paid him $60,000 per year salary on top of the city attorney salary. But of course, what can we expect from a idiot like Chris who will not sign his name to his posts to say. You throw rocks and hid your hand, but cowards like you is what has hurt our city.
ReplyDeletePat let it go you aren't anymore the mayor
