The 2014 article also gushed:
"Garcia was the first Hispanic women(sic) to lead a college in the United States. She has been named one of the top 10 university presidents by Time Magazine and has earned the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Council on Education. Fortune Magazine has named her one of the World’s 50 Greatest Leaders."

Notice the absence of a possessive apostrophe in "Americas," as the institute is not owned by a single country, but reaches out to influence an entire hemisphere.
Without fanfare, Garcia's new institute has been quietly located a El Cueto Building, a city-owned property leased for three years to the University of Texas for $270,000. In a "wink wink" deal, Tony Martinez and the City Commission forgave the ultra-rich UT the promised lease money in lieu of "paving" the parking lot. The unbelievably shitty job the city settled for is pictured at left. It would not surprise me if it is city gravel you see scattered on the unprepared surface. The taxpayers will just have to cough up another $270,000 to cover for the City Commission's infatuation with Juliet and her employer.
We stopped by the institute at 2 PM Friday to ask Garcia when the paving job would be completed, but the door was locked and no one answered the bell.
The reason the "Institute of the Americas" was quashed is because, as you suggest, they did not even bother to do a Google search. The real "Institute of the Americas" (please see link below) is a world class research institute housed on the pretigious UC-San Diego Campus. Comparing their facilities to the "Cueto Building" is like comparing Brownsville's primary retail business, ropa usada, to Neiman Marcus. This has to be the most pitiful joke ever played on La Raza. However, one thing for sure, the Director of the Americas Institute (sic) receives a big, fat, world class paycheck complements of the Texas taxpayers. UT should hang their head in shame.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Jim, was there a sign in the window indicating when the "Director" would be returning to her office.

ReplyDeleteIf you ever needed great proof that the mass media is a lie, I don't know what it would be.
The mass media can be bought.
ReplyDeleteThis is called "The UT Institute of the Americas" and we are yet to know its interests or programs. Julieta continues to reach out to Tony Martinez for "gifts".....rent, property etc, for her new endeavor. Tony is a muse for Julieta.....yet we doubt he knows it. Julieta sits beside the Kardenas Klan and their corruptive management style and we can bet that Julieta's goal in her new job will be to promote herself.
ReplyDeleteThe Brownsville Herald has failed to report anything on this new organization of how the city has supported it by giving away property and tax dollars. When will the Herald give up and stop publication?
ReplyDeleteAnother scam perpetuated by Julieta and Tony. When will it stop? It seems as though Tony works harder for UT than he does for the city of brownsville.
ReplyDeleteAll the awards Julieta has received was paid for by the tax payers in Cameron County. She is an arrogant autocrat who sought a "kingdom" not a job. All her awards come amidst the lies that she gave to the community....from number of graduates to quality of education. All these awards for Juliet and our kids received a poor education as she forced faculty to pass everyone to keep the numbers and statistics up for UT System. She promised us a quality university and she failed in that job. Therefore her awards are meaningless. As they say in Texas "She is all hat and no cattle".
