Dr. Oziel Davila Robles |
Nena and I raced to the City Commission building to confront the mayor and city commissioners about this irresponsible settlement. As soon as the mayor opened the meeting, I asked to speak on the issue. The mayor indicated that the matter was going to be considered in executive session and therefore would not be open to public comment.
We waited for the conclusion of the executive session. I immediately approached John Villarreal, City Commissioner District 4.
"John, is it true you guys settled for $70,000 after this guy overbilled the city for $400,000?" I asked.
John's first comment was that recovery of the overcharges would have been difficult because all the records were in Matamoros. When Nena and I laughed at that, John offered: "Well, the doctor did perform many services that he did not bill the city for."
John himself knew that explanation was laughable. When he saw us entering the elevator at the

We later learned that the dentist had used his ill-gotten gains to finance the Dubai Night Club at the confluence of Farm Road 802 and Highway 48. For the record, we learned that the vote to accept the very partial settlement for this theft was 3-3. Rose Gowen, Ricardo Longoria and John Villarreal voted to let the crook slide. Jessica Tetreau-Kalifa, Melissa Zamora and Estela Chavez-Vasquez voted against the settlement. Incompetent Mayor Tony Martinez gleefully broke the tie, letting the dentist slide for bilking Brownsville.
Rose does what the Mayor tells her to do. Ricardo was dirty up to his ass when it came to Dr. Oziel Davila Robles. As for John, he was talked into it by the Mayor or just followed the City Atty. advice to settle. Es todo. Take it to the bank.
ReplyDeleteBrownsville cannot afford to have Tony Martinez set up an autocracy in city government. John Villareal isn't the problem. Tony Martinez is practicing his Julieta Garcia form of dictatorial/autocratic management (which she learned from the Kardenas Klan) which tends to dismiss the public as non-essential and stupid. Rose Gowen says in the Herald that she wants to "protect the progress of recent years"....which translated into real terms means she wants to protect the running trails, the farmer's market, plastic bag ban, smoking ban....none of which produce jobs. She is putting the cart before the horse here....in cahoots with Tony Martinez and his United Brownsville gang. We need jobs and we need skilled workers to expand the marketability of this community.
ReplyDeleteThis seems to be about Tony Martinez, not John Villareal. Substituting responsibility is unfair to John. Tony Martinez, the Mayor, is the culprit, not John.
ReplyDeleteJohn Villarreal is not representing the needs of district 4. Letty Perez Garzoria will speak up for district 4 and will not be bullied by Tony Martinez. It's that simple.
DeleteTony Martinez is not currently up for re-election. John is. The problem is that John(he's not alone)lacks the gumption to stand up to Martinez.
ReplyDeleteJim
Villarreal is too busy obeying Ernie Hernandez and Tony Martinez to do anything of use for district 4. Vote for Letty!
DeleteHow would Ernie benefit of anything? Letty will be too busy obeying cetain special intrest groups that have been screwing our dear beloved brownsville. vote for letty you say? I say NO GRACIAS.
DeleteTo 1:43PM and 3:51PM are you serious, that john villarreal is not at fault for his decisions. Oh my,its like a surgeon telling the family members of the patient, the surgery was a success but the patient ended up dying anyway. Stop babying this overgrown irresponsible baby. I admit its our fault for electing him as a commissioner. we should have known better, how can he be responsible,if he still lives at home with mommy and daddy. He doesn't pay rent, and is sucking from the city tit. John its time to pack your bags and call it quits my friend.
ReplyDeleteLies lies are the only bluffs you say.

ReplyDeleteLittle late, huh?
Finally we get people who are fed up of the corruption to run. Lets give Letty, Robert and Martin a chance. We already have not voice whatsoever in our City Commission. The worst they could do is change Brownsville for the better.
ReplyDeleteFantastic website you have here but I was curious if you knew of any message boards that cover
