On September 26, from 7-9 PM, Brownville gets a look at 36 year old state Representative James Talarico as he makes his case for being a U.S. Senator from Texas to replace John Cornyn.
The former school teacher also wants to change how campaigns are run by refusing PAC money, supporting a cap on campaign contributions and emphasizing the continued separation of church and state.
Within just 12 hours of announcing his Senate bid, he raised over $1 million, not from corporate backers or political action committees, but from thousands of grassroots donors giving small amounts, returning checks from Walmart, Chevron and AT&T. In a political climate dominated by billionaire donors and special interests, he’s offering a radically democratic alternative: a campaign powered by people, not profit.
