READER CLAIMS THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT BROWNSVILLE CLASS RING CONTAINS A MEXICAN FLAG DURING TENURE OF JULIETA V. GARCIA

A reader sent the above excerpt from a Brownsville Herald article registering a complaint about the class ring of what was then known as the University of Texas at Brownsville containing the Mexican flag.

"I do not want it because we are in the UT System, and we are in the U.S." stated the complaining student.

The school's president at the time the ring was produced was Julieta V. Garcia, pictured below.

  2. It is true that the ring contained a Mexican flag. I personally wanted a ring closer to the University of Texas system official ring too and designed my own ring and was not allowed to participate in the UTB ring ceremony because I did not purchase their “official” ring.

  5. Remember when she wanted to pay a half million dollars for a mural… when it became public… she decided it was not a good idea
