Top L: Daisy Zamora, Top R: Nurith Galonsky, Bottom L: Pedro Cardenas, Trey Mendez, Roy De Los Santos, Bottom R: Ramiro Gonzalez |
With just three days until early voting (May 27-June 3) in our City Commission runoff election, two hotly contested races remain; Roy de Los Santos vs. Nurith Galonsky in At Large "B," Pedro Cardenas vs Daisy Zamora for District 4.
Gustavo De Leon, winning the general election outright, has already been sworn in as City Commissioner District 3.
In a candidate forum held May 22 in former Mayor Trey (Tu Gallo) Mendez' and Ramiro Gonzalez's historic Coca Cola Building downtown, Roy de Los Santos encouraged voters to ink the oval for both him and District 4 candidate Pedro Cardenas so they would be part of a board majority.
"If Cardenas (alone) wins, he's still in the minority," De Los Santos explained. "But, let's be honest with ourselves. That's not acceptable."
De Los Santos' opponent, Nurith Galonsky, took exception to that plea for a majority on the City Commission:
"By encouraging people to vote for a candidate in a different race—suggesting that he and the other two commissioners, along with the candidate he is effectively endorsing, will gather four votes to form a majority on the commission—he hopes to advance his agenda.
But what is his agenda? What does he mean when he says that if he is not elected, "things will stay the same?" I served alongside him and believe I know exactly what it is. In my opinion, Brownsville has progressed DESPITE him and his associates. I have seen him oppose campaign finance reforms that limit the amount candidates can spend or the contributions donors can make to campaigns. I witnessed him speak against term limits and vote for projects that the citizens of Brownsville have consistently rejected.
Don’t let him form his slate or gain a majority. The fastest way to prevent this is by ensuring HE is not elected."
The pursued majority Galonsky is referencing would include not only Pedro Cardenas, but also De Los Santos' significant other, District 1 City Commissioner Bryan Martinez, who defeated Galonsky in 2023 and, of course, one other commissioner.
It should also be noted that District 4 candidate Daisy Zamora is said to be closely aligned with former City Commissioner Rose Gowen, someone who primarily focused on the city's bike trails during her tenure.
Successful restauranteur Pedro Cardenas, owner of Mi Casa Tradicion Casera and Mi Pueblito, has made frequent podcast appearances with Robert "Captain Bob" Sanchez and Arturo Trevino, owner of Los Trevi's Drive-Thru adult beverage outlets.

Pink Ape Media's Rodrigo Moreno |
Of course, the city's real, post-election winner, as always, will be Pink Ape Media's Rodrigo Moreno, who in the 2019 general election alone, pocketed $138,347.67 from only 3 candidates, likely doubling that amount in that year's runoff.
Police footage will expose Pedro’s run in with the law very soon, so people can see his true colors, Barton look into this, Jan 2025.
ReplyDeleteWhat has Roy done as a city commissioner? Nothing really, he’s networked extensively, he’s taken money from vendors like no tomorrow especially from Prime powers, his cash cow, he plays Luis VillaReal like a fool. This is why he voted against campaign finance reform to improve transparency, to keep the money flowing into his pockets from vendors. He has no job at the moment and is unemployed with the city being his only pay-day along with cashing in from the special interest and having FREE dinners with Yvonne Barraza’s at Toscafino’s. Currently Byran and Roy are the only two commissioners unemployed and not seeking jobs, I wonder why, oh ya they got special interest and vendor cash flowing. Along with that he continues to verbalize he will get rid of term limits imposing a position that he wants to remain in power and keep an old guard in control continuously. Adding to that, he is romantically engaged with another commissioner, Bryan from district 1, they hide it and lie about it but it’s so obvious, talk about a conflict of interest, he’s talking about a majority vote when he’s a guy who for the last two years has been voting with 2 votes every time. Let’s not forget about your ethics violation, sitting on several different boards and attempting to acquire your boards with financial means from the city, come on Roy you have yourself on that one. You got caught and they reprimanded you, you did not like that but you deserved it. Your governing style is total control and that does not work around here nor anywhere. Roy you have been my friend for years but look at yourself and ask yourself what have you become, just another power hungry politician that needs to get over himself.
ReplyDeletePedro Cardenas, the greatest wolf in disguise the city has seen. 1, Lied about where lives, he does not live in the vicinity of his district, he lives somewhere else. He got caught in that scandal so he faked an address in VICC which was total BS, the guy has been seen in other neighborhoods and is making a house in a district 3 area. 2, faked a divorce to allow his wife to apply for BCIC funds which she was able to acquire instantly to keep her baking shop on Washington st. Afloat. Interesting to see a fake divorce come about and see a BCIC application 24 hours later, such liars. 3, moved ownership of his restaurants over to another family members name to apply for BCIC grants, which he did and once again acquired funds from BCIC to stash into his pockets. 4, your infamous run in with the police, at the station they all know Pedro, they told us how it went down how you said “do you know who i am?” Playing that card of high and mighty but then again we wouldn’t expect anymore for you but that. Can’t wait for the footage to be released so the people can see your true colors. 5, placed a lawsuit against the city to not release the footage, why would you do that? What are you trying to hide from your constituents? 6, you clinging to certain groups in this race when we all know you don’t give two hoots about anyone. This is ridiculous, for example you claim to be supporting Roy in this race but you don’t like gay people and have been herd always criticizing the homosexual community, I wonder why, does that not align well with your MAGA beliefs. Pedro, as a person that has known you for years, I wouldn’t be writing this not knowing what I’m talking about, seeing you throughout school skipping by and squeezing in sticky situations is what you are good at and it seems as if you are trying to pulloff your scheme once again. People need to know the truth, you are a flat out look you in the face liar that comes back and jokes around till you get on someone’s good side again, along with that your a great deceiver of the truth, something our citizens do not deserve.
ReplyDeletePedro, Roy, by now you know that it is Roman Perez writing all these anonymous posts against you. He is sucking ass to Daisey and Nurith, while at the same time playing double agent calling you guys. Daisey and Nurith’s political consultant is giving Roman the script to post. You are a sleaze ball Roman
ReplyDeleteIt’s interesting that out of all the political signs that were put out this election cycle, only Nurith Golonsky’s were defaced. Not any other candidates was defaced, not one…. But hers were… and she puts out an add playing the victim. She did the same thing on her first election when she first won. Her signs were defaced and she puts out adds that people are being mean to her and defacing her signs. Only hers! I think it’s her own people that are defacing them and then she tries to capitalize on playing the sympathy card. Who would only deface her signs and no one else’s?!
