It's foolish to just assume Donald Trump can't establish himself as an autocrat, a dictator, aligning his government with the Russian model.
If someone convicted on 34 felony counts, assessed a settlement in the hundreds of millions for business fraud, someone with no respect for our military or democratic form of government, can be elected President, who's to say he can't reshape that office into dictatorship and not just on Day One?
While Putin has his oligarchs, Trump has his billionaires, the very same thing, "supporting" him because of what he will do for them, continuing to lighten their tax burden, rolling back those nasty environmental regulations that stifle their ability to maximize profits.
The incredible irony is that the chicken processing plant worker in Arkansas, with a "F*** Biden" flag flying from the bed of his old pickup, voted for Trump and gets nothing from that support.
If Trump gets his way, he'll stack his administration with 11 billionaires, 13 Fox News hosts, contributors or employees, 3 relatives and several with ties to Project 2025.
One billionaire contributed $250M to the Trump campaign while another is tossing millions toward Trump's inauguration. Those contributors will reap financial benefits from a Trump second term while the Arkansas chicken plant worker gets nothing.
Trump will inherit a great economy from Biden, just as he benefited from following a very good Obama economy in 2016. We'll soon see if someone who turned $413M of daddy's money into six bankruptcies has learned anything about finances since. Can the "stable genius" make tariffs work like no economist says they work?
Trump's dumbass promise to "drill, baby, drill" on Day One, ignores the fact that the United States is currently producing more oil and natural gas than ever before, far more than any other country. The problem is that there's only about 50 years of oil left, based on known reserves. So, with Trump simply "drill, baby, drilling," while likely stifling, stymieing and squelching clean energy programs, our country may be in a very shitty place soon. Yet, who knows what technological advances may yet come to change all this? Is anyone driving that Toyota powered by a hydrogen fuel cell?
We'll soon see. Over the next few years, Trump will certainly give late night talk shows plenty of comedic fodder and give four elderly male members of the local blogosphere something to write about.
Trump will use the office of the Presidency, just as he did his first go around; for personal enrichment. While we'll never know if Trump actually turned his $400,000 annual salary back to the treasury as he claimed, even once, let alone four times, we do know he unethically made tens of millions doing business with foreign governments from the oval office. There will be no pretense of ethics in Trump 2.0. Even his children will use their proximity to the presidency to profit. Profiteering from the oval office will be totally uninhibited from 2025-29.(The Saudi prince may even invest another $2B in Jared Kushner's firm.)
How will the 52.5% of Cameron County who voted for Trump in this past election fare? Well, if they're oligarchs, just fine. Otherwise, they voted against their own interests.
