HOW FORMER MAYOR TONY MARTINEZ BETRAYED BROWNSVILLE WITH THE TENASKA SCAM

Former Mayor Tony Martinez

In 2011 former Mayor Tony Martinez asked residents to "Believe in Brownsville," although most of us learned later to never believe in Tony Martinez.

Now, the Executive Review of an audit conducted by Carr, Riggs and Ingram, CPAs from Metairie, LA, shows that Martinez and the arrogant slimeball CEO of the Brownsville Public Utilities Board, John Bruciak, repeatedly lied to Brownsville citizens about the feasibility and progress of the 800 MW Tenaska Power Plant resulting in a $125,000,000 windfall for P.U.B. from tax increases for a power plant never built.

The audit shows that Martinez and Bruciak repeatedly manipulated the information fed Brownsville's City Commission, first of all to hide the fact that Brownsville had no need for the increased input of the power plant, then hid the fact that the project had been shelved by Tenaska because they couldn't find takers for the extra 600 MW of power.

Max Yzaguirre

There were other players, including Max Yzaguirre, a former Enron executive hired by BPUB at a $35,000 per month salary paid for by Brownsville ratepayers.

In a clear conflict of interest Yzaguirre was later hired by the Tenaska Corporation to find electrical customers in Mexico.

John Bruciak
Brownsville's Public Utility Board, led by CEO John Bruciak, joined Brownsville's City Commission for two information sessions in November 2015 and April 2017, both times using false data concerning the need for and the development of the power plant.

Mayor Tony Martinez participated in both sessions, betraying his constituents with lies and falsehoods.

Addendum:  Ana and I were out of state for nearly a year and just became aware of this audit released in October 2021.

  1. TENASKA said they were out. The project should have stopped then and their period. But let’s see who was to benefit it the squirting of easements continued… and damn the citizens! They need not know a thing… Tony Martinez took care of that by not telling the commission until two years after TENASKA was out. The PUB Board Members also gave the middle finger to the commission and citizens by not letting them know of the change of plans. But back to who masterminded the coup to keep the gravy train going.
Carlos Marin made 4 million dollars securing easements… and he ordered Eddie Treviño to ask to be the condemnation Attorney, which was granted to him… and he made a cool million, which by the way, many law-firms are scratching their heads on how Trevino billed all those hours… some even saying it was impossible! Carlos Marin bought easements from a familiar family to Brownsville who have made millions selling worthless buildings to the city for millions. The Golonsky family who are close to Tony Martinez made the deal for the Casa Nylon Building. Now they cash in again selling easements to the failed TENASKA project after TENASKA dropped out of the project. Nurith was a board member at PUB when TENASKA kicked off… now she is a strong supporter of PUB moving on and not investigating the matter. There should be a forensic Audit on Eddie Treviños billing. How can he be on retainer by PUB and still bill for TENASKA??!!
Carlos Marin and Eddie Treviño are old friends… Trevino gave Marin a cool million for Imagine Brownsville… now they come back and make millions on a project they knew was dead but kept it alive to bill millions! Seek and you shall find…. Marin and Treviño should be investigated… and throw in the Golonsky’s … why not?
