IS STATE DISTRICT JUDGE DAVID A. SANCHEZ BREAKING THE LAW BY ENDORSING ADOLFO CORDOVA FOR DISTRICT JUDGE?

Candidate Adolfo Cordova, flanked by the Sanchez Brothers,
District Judge David on the left and Attorney Daniel on the right.  District Attorney Luis V. Saenz is second from the left.

Legal ethics is not a high priority in Cameron County. Local attorneys don't have to be particularly good barristers, just learn which judges might be receptive to a little greasing of the palm.

For a number of very obvious reasons, Texas judges ARE prohibited from openly endorsing political candidates.

Judge David A. Sanchez, pictured above openly endorsing candidate Adolfo Cordova, seems oblivious to the law or is not concerned about its enforcement.

Please note this statement from the Texas Center for Legal Ethics:

(2) A judge or judicial candidate shall not authorize the public use of his or her name endorsing another candidate for any public office, except that either may indicate support for a political party. A judge or judicial candidate may attend political events and express his or her views on political matters in accord with this Canon and Canon 3B(10).

  1. Can you quote where he endorse anyone. Chief Justice Nathen Hecht spoke repeatedly in favor of Harriet Meirs for the Supreme COurt. The three judge panel found his support for Harriet was not an endorsement. This is the law. It is settled. My sources are clear SAenz is only helping Cordova because of his hatred for Masso. But here is the law on the question for your edification.https://caselaw.findlaw.com/tx-special-court-of-review-sct/1428239.html

  2. Judge David A. Sanchez submitted to a public picture while wearing an Adolfo Cordova for District Judge campaign shirt. That's the ENTIRE point of the photo, to show his support.

  3. Well the courts found in the case of Nathen Hecht it is not, Nathen Hecht did not tke any pictures, He interviewed with endless news media telling everyone Narriet Meirs was a quialified candidate for the Supreme COurt. He said this over and over againg, while also insuring the conervatives she was reliable. The courts found this is not an endorsement. How is a picture standing next to someone an endorsement, but telling the national news media Harriet Meirs is highly qualified for the SUpreme COurt is not an endorsement. The law is black and white on this one. They found no wrongdoing by Chief Justice Nathen Hecht repeatedly stating publicly that Harrier Meirs is highly qualfiied for the US Supreme COurt.

  4. Bobby,
I don't know the particulars of the case you're citing, but:

    en·dorse·ment
    inˈdôrsmənt,enˈdôrsmənt/Submit
    noun
    1.
an act of giving one's public approval or support to someone or something.

While Luis Saenz and the other two associates stand together in obvious support of Adolfo Cordova for Judge, Daniel Sanchez and his twin brother, David, a district judge, take the obvious support to another level by wearing a "Adolfo Cordova for District Judge" t-shirt.

Common sense dictates they both are PUBLICLY and BLATANTLY supporting Cordova. It's not simply the appearance of impropriety, it's a clear ethical violation regardless of how some court has ruled in another case, similar or dissimilar.

    1. Jim just because you do not like the law does not make it go away. Your lack of interest in reading the opinion is telling. Nathen Hecht as the Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme COurt repeatedly stated Harriet Meirs was well qualified for the Supreme Court. What you fail to understand is no where in the picture is SAnchez saying as a judge he is endorsing Cordova. You are just making it up. If you are unwilling to read he law on the issue then you should not be claiming to know it. Again for your edification. https://caselaw.findlaw.com/tx-special-court-of-review-sct/1428239.html

    2. Ethics laws protect the sanctity of the court.

Masso and Cordova are both lawyers who could someday face each other in Sanchez' court. Sanchez has already shown he favors Cordova over Masso.

It's simply common sense prevailing over spin.

    3. Common Sense doesn't live in Cameron County, Jim. how long have you been in Brownsville? LOL

  5. Unethical plain and simple!! What do you expect? This is Cameron County home of CORRUPTION!!

  6. Not only is he endorsing, but his stomach stretches the fabric and enlarges the message he's endorsing. No shame or ethics to be found here.

  7. Meirs wasn’t running for political office. She was being nominated for a completely different classification of a court system.. The opinion Bobby cites clearly says how differently we fill federal versus state judicial offices.

The opinion went out of its way to protect a sitting Republican. Judge Sanchez isn’t a Republican. Oh and let me guess Bobby does agree with you because you discovered the problem, Jim. And he’s probably gonna vote for Masso but hates disinformation about Cordova. It’s about the process. Nothing else. No sacred cows. Or whatever the fuck.

    Great job, Jim.

  9. Bobby has more sacred cows than India! As a matter of fact, the gases emitted from his bullshit just surpassed cattle as Texas's top air pollutant.

  10. This argument changes if Bobby discovered first.

  11. “Qualified” is different than “vote for.”

End of the day, none of this shit matters. We all know who the party backs. The party always wins.

  12. By simply wearing a Cordova T-shirt or posing with Cordova for a picture, Sanchez is NOT authorizing anyone the public use of his name; it's an expression of his opinion. Sanchez, however, cannot authorize Cordova to use his (Sanchez) picture in any form of public endorsement such as a Herald ad with Sanchez' neanderthal mug saying what a great guy Cordova is. Seems to me Sanchez is expressing his opinion publicly as to which candidate he supports, whether that be displayed on a T-shirt, EEEEEchanclas, or XXXX chones because that is a PERSONAL support/endorsement. What others, including social media, do with Sanchez picture without his consent is beyond his control and they gonna be in biiig trouble.

  13. Hi Mr. Barton,

Bobby WC is so angry. Why? He said last night he was going to vote for Mr. Masso on Facebook. Now he changed his mind because he is angry. The runoff will have very few voters. Every vote matters. Bobby’s vote matters. He’s so angry that he risks getting Mr. Masso’s opponent in office because he’s angry. Why is Bobby so angry?

    Sincerely,
    LD

  14. Saw a Mexican peddler downtown with a Notre Dame football jersey. Is he endorsing the Fighting Irish or just wearing a fucking jersey?

  15. Hey puto, I was that "Mexican peddler" wearing the Notre Dame jersey (they say T shirts down here) and I was in town to recruit talented, graduating Mexicans for our school. So fuck you!
