WHAT IS THE REAL REASON FOR THE CARLOS GARZA FIRING?

Sheriff Omar Lucio
The bizarro world of Cameron County cowboy-hatted sheriffing has an Old West feel to it.

Mild-mannered octogenarian Sheriff Omar Lucio, while likely napping in his Lazyboy,  has his gunslingers, the Reyna Boys, Gus and Javier, to shoot down any rivals at high noon.

For years, we've heard that the Reyna Boys do much of the actual oversight of the sheriffs department, while Sheriff Lucio looks the other way after Gus Reyna's drunken shenanigans, involving multiple accidents in county vehicles with no accident or Driving Under the Influence reports.

The Reyna Boys, meanwhile, scan the range for any upstarts who might be practicing their quickdraw.

John Chambers
John Chambers, now serving five years probation on a conviction for falsification of government records, claims to this day that the charges were trumped up by Sheriff Omar Lucio when Chambers dared to run for Cameron County Sheriff.

Carlos Garza
Another possible victim of his own ambition is Carlos Garza, formerly a captain with the Cameron County Sheriffs Department.

Juan Montoya of El Rrun Rrun blog reported Garza's termination, hinting some unethical tie to a landscaping service and a towing company.  Montoya added that a "female relative" of Garza had been fired for "falsifying time sheets," although that would not be relevant.

We've heard another angle.

Abel Gomez
Omar Lucio, we've been told, will not seek re-election when his term ends 12/31/2020.  Lucio and the Reyna Boys are said to be backing Constable Abel Gomez for sheriff in the 2020 campaign.

Is it possible that Carlos Garza's recently expressed interest in running for sheriff in 2020 has something to do with his termination from the department?

We certainly hope not, but the Old West is a dangerous place with the tombstones of past challengers littering the landscape.

  1. Why the knock on Lucio's age, Jim? How old are you?

  2. Abel was fired from the Sheriff's office for allowing an inmate he arrested in the jail. Once he took the inmate into booking he would not allow jailers to search the arrestee. Jailers informed Gomez it was policy. Jailers then searched the individual and found a weapon on the individual. It turns out the inmate had a hit on another. Abel Gomez was terminated from the Sheriff's Office.

  3. He announced wanting to run for sheriff LONG AFTER he was getting investigated and charged. And that took forever after people repeatedly reported illegal activity and intimidation. John Chambers is a bully with a badge and we have enough of that going on.

  4. What ever happened to the shooting Gomez was involved in a few months ago? He was working at a night club off of the expressway and gave the Brownsville cops a bunch of misleading information. Then, the sheriff's office arrived and screwed it up even more!

  6. The same thing that happened to Cantu will happen to Able. The feds gave Cantu to chance to ride away, but they pounced on him as soon as he tried jumping back into the ring.

  7. There is rumored to be a video of a witness talking about payouts he made to the Reynas and to the sheriff. Could this be true. Heard the videos were downloaded offf the county server.
