Enrique Escobedo, pictured above with convicted R.I.C.O. felon Carlos Quintanilla, was named Board President in by the school board in their December 6 meeting. Many feel that both men were extremely instrumental in dismissing the school district's 14.3 million dollar suit against HealthSmart for overcharges during a two year period. Others named as officers include Lucy Longoria as Vice President, Dr. Christinia Saavedra as Secretary and Cata Presas-Garcia as Assistant Secretary. Those four typically vote as a block and are sometimes referred to as the "Majority Four". Three trustees did not get selected as officers: Joe Colunga, Rolando Aguilar and Minerva Pena.
Escobedo is no stranger to controversy. During the last election the Brownsville Herald exposed his claim to credentials as a doctor as fraudulent. Even after this exposure, Escobedo continued to print campaign materials, file campaign reports and publish a website, all of which referred to him as "Dr. Escobedo". Escobedo maintained that he received a medical doctor degree from Universidad del Noreste in Tampico, but the school denies that.
Do you all know how much $$$ is every one of them to receive, along with Quintanilla?

ReplyDeleteWell think about it. The Former Board President and the Current Board President do not have a job with steady income. Let us guess how much they will get? Well it is cheaper for Healthsmart to buy 4 board members and one ex-con than pay 14,000,000.00 to BISD. Bet they can get the 4 board members and 1 ex-con for a sale price. Let's say they split $1,000,000.00. That is still cheaper for Healthsmart. Too Bad for BISD!

Until Minerva, Aguilar , or Colunga decide to stand out to them....Nothing will change. Our children continue to get screwed...

Convicted felon Quitanilla, and these corrupt board majority dissmissed the law suit against Healthsmart therefore giving 14 millions away from taxpayers money. How come Jerry Mchale is not saying anything???

ReplyDeleteI had the privilege and honor of being taught by Dr. Escobedo at UTB. He always made classes interesting. I consider him a mentor and role model for our young people, not a fake as you claim. He has done a lot for our city. What have you done?
Even if he taught and was good at teaching, that does not take away the fact that his credentials are in question. Cata Presas-Garcia has been overheard stating that he is not entitled to his claim as a Doctor nor does he have a PHD. If his own colleague questions his credentials why not the rest of the community. Can you imagine what would happened if a true blue investigation finds out that this man taught a course that required a real Doctor or PHD degree and he has neither? Can anyone find out if he is or is not a doctor? Does he or does he not hold a PHD? Why are the majority of his board colleagues not questioning this? Is it because they cover for each other? On that point, does Dr. Christina Saavedra hold a real PHD or doctor's degree? Think about it.

ReplyDelete"Dr" Escobedo had done nothing but bring disgrace to the school board. After dismissing the Healthsmart lawsuit he is pretty much done with local politics. There is now way the people will elect him again. He has done more for himself than for the city. He is unempoyed, but thats ok.......i am sure he and the other three boardmembers are going to make out like bandits for doing this favor for Quintanilla.

ReplyDeleteNone of them have education, some claim to be doctors when in fact they are not, others claim to have been assistant secretaries, or secretaries. Bottom line is, none of these people are qualified to handle the district. This last set of "trustees" are definitely NOT TO BE TRUSTED WITH OUR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION!
