FILEMON VELA AND CONGRESSIONAL HISPANIC CAUCUS BLAST REPUBLICANS FOR INACTION ON DREAMERS

Filemon Vela

From the editor:  Congressman Filemon Vela, whose District 34 slithers up into central Texas farm country, an obvious gerrymand, never forgets his roots and his base in Cameron County.  He's been firmly and loudly against the border wall and joins his fellow members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus in imploring the House of Representatives to take action on DACA.

We reprint today's CHC press release below:

Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released this statement following a vote in the House of Representatives on the Republican Continuing Resolution:

“The House Republicans’ decision to close their eyes to 800,000 Dreamers who were counting on them to do the right and moral thing this holiday season is devastating. Delaying passing a permanent, bipartisan solution like the Dream Act before the end of the year will continue to cause thousands of more Dreamers to fall out of status and become targets for detention and deportation, spreading more fear in communities across our nation. House Republicans had the power and solution to end this crisis; instead, they recklessly returned home leaving the livelihoods and families of Dreamers in a cruel limbo.

“We will continue to be relentless in our fight for Dreamers because we need this done now. We will leverage every single opportunity to keep all Congressional leaders committed to the goal of permanently protecting Dreamers by mid-January. You can bet on the CHC, Dreamers, many rank-and-file Republicans, and the overwhelming majority of Americans to hold this Congress accountable.”

  1. Not sure if the GOP was always the party of white supremacy and racism, but they are now so blatantly racist they can't maintain a consistent message on immigration. They call for vetting and background checks of immigrants. There is no class of immigrants that have been more thoroughly vetted than the DACA individuals. At first i believed they just wanted fewer hispanics and brown people in the country, hence the deportations. But then they fought against illegal immigrants getting access to abortion. That means forcing more brown skinned anchor babies (their terminology) to be born here. Many a product of rape and to girls with no papers and very little money. Breaking up and deporting DACA families while forcing other illegal immigrants to have more babies here. I admit i am confused as to what their goal is, besides inflicting human misery. I wish Vela the best of luck with this but he is challenging sheer indoctrinated racism, coming from a party that says the KKK contains good people, white hoods and confederate flags and all. Wish him the best.

    1. Since you are so confused, I will take a moment out of my busy schedule to explain it to you. The wall will be built starting in the valley and we will start deporting undesirables on a large scale. daca no longer exists. You should pack your bags and turn yourself in.

    3. Typical surface-level Trump logic from his lemmings. If the DACAs are undesirables, why are you forcing undesirable illegal immigrant women to birth anchor babies here? If you are trying to remove them, you wouldn't force them to birth more "undesirables" (your term) on our soil. Another unwanted, neglected extra child that will likely end up in crime, now that the GOP defunded CHIP and their health care. You don't care about the mother, the kids or their long term prospects, admit it. Your "caring" ends as soon as that precious fetus is born, then deport, defund, destroy. No one is fooled anymore.

    4. On the numbers, when you deport a DACA kid, you are removing someone who has been educated here, who has passed yearly background checks, who speaks English and Spanish. You are throwing away hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in him or her over 18 years of schooling, clothes, medicine, care, education. The argument that you are removing "undesirables" falls apart because then the GOP makes the process start all over again by forcing illegal immigrant women to birth babies they don't want. You've traded an educated, background-checked resident for a new citizen who needs a new round of investment of 18 years of schooling, clothes, medicine, policing, etc. Financially it is a loss. You should keep the educated one and encourage the illegal immigrant to terminate and not burden taxpayers with new mouths to feed, especially when the mother herself doesn't want to take care of it.

  2. Vela has accomplished nothing while in office except embarrass us and alienate brownsville.

  3. I order you to return to your country and make MΓ©xico great again. I bet you did not know that the new homeland security policy is to follow up on EVERY report of illegals. 1 week ago I watched someone down the street get picked up. Evidently someone anonymously reported his ass. Home land security doing the job they are paid to do. Ironically he was cutting his own yard at the time. He won’t be selling coke in my neighborhood anymore. My neighbors including the legal ones are very happy.
