Free Speech, Satire, Soggy Shrimp and Avocado Heads!

We heard fireworks and bottle rockets at the bow this week as locals flocked to the City Commission meeting in record numbers to hear Cesar de Leon sort of apologize for racial epithets.

Near the aft of our beleaguered ship was a lone gadfly, Cap'n Bob, holding a soggy sparkler, a gift from daddy.

We're not that much into sparklers, as they don't have that "popping" sound, and, once they get soggy, they're simply a dud.

But, Cap'n Bob, a persistent fellow, kept waving the soggy stick in our face, calling us a "wannabe" blogger, while misspelling every other word in his diatribe, making my 8th grade teacher, Mrs. McConnell roll over in her grave.

Brownsville Observer's music writer, Diego Lee Rot, had some fun with the Cap'n Bob photo above and the result of Diego's graphic art sent the Cap'n into a tizzy.

Diego sent the photo to us without a suggested title.  I agonized:

Narcissism on Calle Jacaranda, Cap'n Bob's Favorite Vegetable/Fruit, "No Avocado Is the Same," were some of the suggestions.

It's all in good fun.  Blogging is a give-and-take proposition.

  2. Mariscos de la Rosa on Hwy 48 near Port Brownsville is the best seafood place in Brownsville. No offense to Captain Bob's but there's no comparison.
