There is a lot bigger story here. I am not big on edited recordings especially when released for retaliation. But I know people and this is going to hit the fan..
ReplyDeleteBut the bigger story is, caution unless in historical context it is never acceptable to use the N word, the blacks v. the browns and how the Democratic Party has failed to control this situation. In Dallas, the hispanic community including the hispanic judges were fed up with the discrimination against the Latino community by the black Democrat DA. They organized with the Republicans and voted him out for a Republican white woman. She became sick and resigned and Gov. Abbott appointed a black female to hold the position. The black Democrats will cross party lines and vote for her, so the Democrats have lost the DA's position for a very long time coming. The Latino lawyers just reorganized in Dallas and went to the party and people with money and asked for support for their candidates. It was made clear all of the money is only going to the black candidates for the open seats. Also if a black judge is being challenged the establishment will only give money to black candidates challenging the judge. The Latino community is not happy, and we could see a few Democrats lose as judges in favor of Republicans.

Gilbert Hinojosa has done nothing to mediate this war which goes back to Ann Richards, the last Democratic Governor, the next election the war was on between the black and browns and now we cannot even get a prominent Democrat to run for governor.
ReplyDeleteI will never defend the use of the N word except in its historical context. But this problem Cesar speaks about is real. It is costing the Democratic Party in dallas and Gilbert Hinojosa does nothing to mediate the situation.
The only good thing I see coming from this is maybe the Democratic Party may have to face this problem. This war is no way new. While growing up in the city the main gangs were blacks v. Lainos - yes you had the Italians, but the war between blacks and browns was intense.
Sad it has to reach this level of because of a complete and total lack of leadership from the Democratic Party.
Even in the school district. I accepted a 6 week assignment in a mostly black highschool to teach social studies for every grade in Spanish and English. I lasted three days. Day one the black quarterback came into the classroom and hit the females and then hit the males on the head with a metal garbage can telling them to go home. I called security, and no one answer. By law I could not leave the classroom or defend my students. The was no hall monitor. I yelled out in the hallway and no other teacher dare leave their classroom. The principal refused to punish the student. The next day he brought his friends and I called the Dallas police telling them DISD police were refusing assistance. The black students ran. Again the principal refused to act. The teacher before me walked off the job in the middle of the day because of the same problem. On day three the quarterback came in and threw two metal garbage cans at me and a student tranferring out out of fear. I took the student with me, locked the door, called the police and the principle did nothing. I refused to return.
Another principle called me and asked that I take a full time permanent job teaching all high school social studies courses in Spanish and English. His school was rapidly becoming Latino. He told me I just needed to convince the person over staff and the job was mine. She came into the room as a black woman and said we already have too many Latinos in the school. The black principle put his head down in shape for what she said. She had friends on the Board and his hands were tied.
Mind you, Dallas has a lot of really quality black and brown leaders trying to stop this war, but the press will not help them and the self annointed racists on both sides shut them down at meetings.
This is the bigger story. But the use of the N word is inexcusable. I listened closely, but rememeber I am old, I'm not sure I heard it, but if he did say it the city commission should issue a statement of condemnation against Cesar for his language if in fact he said the N word.

ReplyDeleteYou're correct, what Cesar said might not look good for the Democratic party, but Brownsville is not Dallas and the people who voted for Cesar don't care if he called black attorneys the N word.
