A Photographic Walk Downtown Brownsville, 5/16/2017

I've kept my eye out for this door to a second floor photography studio.  Mistakenly, I remembered it on Elizabeth Street, but found it today on Washington Street.  In 1967, 50 years ago, I paid, what I then thought was too much, for a black and white passport photo from this 2nd floor studio.

  1. I hope Ramiro Avila aka Kimberley is ok. When people say that religion is a positive force in society, I roll my eyes. The Christian bible and the Koran and the old testament forbid homosexuality. Yet it's common in the animal kingdom and as common and natural as the sun rising every day. We had a gay rooster that did not want to mate with the hens but only wanted to be mounted by the other roosters. Even though roosters are notoriously territorial, none of the other males treated this one like a threat or fought with him the way they did each other. Our whole chicken clan seemed to get and understand that this one rooster was not competing with the other males for the hens. But as a result of the negative programming by religion, our gay kids have a target painted on their back that says its okay to hurt or kill me, because the bible says so. What is their great crime here? Wearing secondhand clothes from the opposite side of the aisle? Wearing a man's suit or a woman's dress? It's just fabric. I'm hoping against hope this transgender person is ok. Gay friends of mine have been beaten up or hit over the head and knocked unconscious for no greater crime than walking out of a gay bar at night. Who said that was ok? Oh right, wonderful religion.

  2. Great pics of a typical little town lost in the middle of nowhere.

  3. Trump: "No politician has been treated more unfairly"?

Dude, no politician has been as stupid as you are.
