From the editor: Former Mayor Pat Ahumada used to say: "McAllen is eating our lunch." Economically, McAllen does seem to outstrip Brownsville with bank deposits, sale tax collections, per capita income all being much higher.
But, of course, McAllen has no soul. It's simply a larger version of Harlingen. Why would anyone actually CHOOSE to live in either one of those towns?
