Castro, Joyas, Garza Join Ahumada in Battling Martinez for Mayorship

Attorney Trey Mendez
There are potential candidates in Brownsville who could whip incumbent Mayor Tony Martinez's ass, but to paraphrase former Boston Celtics Coach Rick Pitino:  "Trey Mendez ain't walkin' through that door, baby!"

Several challengers to Tony Martinez have emerged. A friend called at midnight Friday night to say he'd been in contact with Erasmo Castro about the requirements to run for mayor.  This morning Castro confirmed his intent to run for mayor on the Brownsville Cheezmeh Facebook page.
Linda Castro Dragustinovis,
Erasmo's Campaign Manager

When a friend inboxed me this morning to say that Castro's entrance into the race would "help Tony," I responded with:  "but, of course, there will be a runoff between two. . . Erasmo adds more criticism of Tony to the mix."

Tony Martinez has been a bad, bad mayor, serving only the interests of former UTB President Juliet Garcia and her cronies at United Brownsville.  He has yet to do shit for the city, only stealing, squandering, giving away city assets, burdening the taxpayers with $3.5 million in debt on totally dumbass real estate deals.  Brownsville deserves much better than Tony Martinez.

Brenda Joyas
Brenda Joyas contacted me last October 7 about running for mayor.

Brenda and I first talked in front of El Tapiz building when she told me about how her efforts to start a bed and breakfast in Brownsville were stymied by the countless hoops of city regulation.  She was working as an intern in the Planning Department while finishing requirements for her degree at UTB.  She later transferred to the Brownsville Bike Barn.

I doubt she will object to my sharing that conversation:

Hi Jim! I'm researching running for mayor, I was wondering from your extent reporting what you see the people needing, other than politicians that don't line their pockets with city $, or lies.

My response:
sure. . .someone who includes them in the process, sells them on ideas before implementing, not just going behind their backs

a listener

even some of the working class heroes, as I call them, have actual ideas

downtown business people need actual HELP and they need it fast or they will be gone

Brenda answered:
Brenda Joyas

I'm already working on downtown people I have a plan set up n funding is being coordinated without city help

It's getting them back together that's hard, they've been burned so many times

So I walk n talk to them whenever I can

And yes, I hate the way the commission is run ideas need to be run n approved prior to implementation

I've talked to a lot of the community n so many have lost hope already, we need hope an action back in our community

When P.K. Patel, valley hotelier from India, ran for the City Commission in 2011, William Garza as Campaign Manager was right by his side.  Garza and his wife run the Magnuson Inn, on the access of Interstate 77/83, for Patel.  In a few days we will give Garza the interview he's requested.

  1. Brenda, don't waste your time. You are helping Tony get re-elected.

Erasmo, same thing. Don't waste your time. Your followers don't vote.
