Dumbass Alert!!!!! Rick Longoria Claims Casa del Nylon Was A "Bargain"

Ricardo Longoria, Jr.
There is no shame in being a slow learner. DNA, environment, educational opportunities all play a part our facility to process information. Substance abuse, it is said, can destroy brain cells, impair cognition and slow reflexes.

With all due respect to those facing genetic and other challenges, Rick Longoria, Jr. rides the proverbial short bus in real adult life.

Homeless Couple Camped in Front of
Unused Casa del Nylon Building
Notice Brownsville Herald reporter Ty Johnson's characterization of Longoria's assessment of the $2,300,000 spent on Abraham Galonsky's Casa del Nylon in 2012:

"Longoria said while other downtown property purchases, like the $2.3 million Casa del Nylon acquisition, were justifiable because they were bargains, he doesn’t see an urgency at Market Square."(Brownsville Herald, 1/8/15)

A "bargain?"  Casa del Nylon?  Even if you dismiss real estate appraiser Pat Ahumada's estimate of $635,000, no right-minded person thinks Casa del Nylon was worth anywhere near $2.3 million.  It actually has a negative value to the city since for three year's running no property tax has been collected while NO USE has been found for the property.  The only users are the homeless couple pictured above who camped under the Adams Street awning for well over a year until the lady's death several months ago.

While Longoria cites Casa del Nylon as a "bargain" for the taxpayers, notice the Brownsville Herald report of his convoluted reasoning on the proposed purchase report of another downtown Galonsky building:

"The property’s small courtyard and accesses to other buildings on East 10th Street were cited in the resolution to pay $55,000 for the property, which even dissenting District 1 Commissioner Ricardo Longoria said was a bargain, because appraisals suggested the property was worth at least $75,000.

However, Longoria said he voted against the
downtown purchase because he sees other, better uses for the AEP money."(Brownsville Herald, 1/8/15)

So, Longoria approves of purchasing Casa del Nylon because it was a "bargain," but rejects purchasing another Galonsky property for well under the appraised price?

While Nena did not approve of my use of the word "dumbass" in the headline, I can't think of a more appropriate word, can you?

  3. Ricardo Longoria is known to have regular "brain farts" and this pronouncement may have been just that. Ricrado Longoria is not known for being a bright or intelligent person....but a person who hangs on the the grass to keep from falling off the earth. Ricardo Longoria is better off if he concentrates on his DJ business and leaves city business to those with a brain.
