Will Southmost's Proposed Ricardo Longoria, Jr. Park Become A Money Pit Like the Sports Park?

Tony Martinez was never
about Brownsville
The mayor and city commission, with the exception of Jessica Tetreau, are hell-bent on disposing of Brownsville's precious asset, Lincoln Park, for peanuts.

Even more  short-sighted, at least a couple of greedy
Rose Gowen
commissioners are scrambling to spend a portion of the thirty pieces of silver, the $6.5 million UT offered for park relocation, on their pet projects. Rose Gowen wants at least $1,000,000 for her personal shrine, the Belden Trail.  Young Deborah Portillo, a quick study in opportunism, also wants money for her program.

With all of this squandering of taxpayer assets, the eventual Ricardo Longoria, Jr. Park in Southmost seems destined to become a money pit similar to the Brownsville/Olmito Sports Park still years from being paid off.

Deborah "Little Debbie" Portillo,
becoming Rose Gowen right before
our eyes.
First off, with inept commissioners squandering the $6.5 million from UT for pet projects, how will the new park be funded?  Is there magic money out there to convert the odorous plot next to the sewage treatment plant into R.L., Jr. Park?

Secondly, like the B/ville/Olmito Sports Park property, the proposed site for R.L., Jr. Park has no utilities. Remember how the mushrooming totals at the Sports Park were explained away because "we" started with raw land, no utilities?

Finally, the sports equipment at Lincoln Park is still under warranty.  Any movement by the city voids that warranty and puts maintenance under the purview and financing of the city.   How do you like that taxpayers?

Like Yogi Berra once said:  "Deja vu, all over again!"

  1. If a park gets named after that fat boy I'm leaving town.

  2. What did you expect Jim? Gowen, Portillo and Estella had their elections paid for by Tony. John and Ricardo simply have no balls.

  3. They should name the sewage lift station after Ricardo Longoria Jr. and christen the park after an honest South Texas politician, if one ever turns up.

  4. You would think the choir boy Rick Longoria would listen to a Homily once in a while. His pastor surely talks about defending the lower class.

  6. Why is everyone so mean to Rick? It is Tony's fault, not Rick. Lincoln Park isn't in Rick's district.

  8. Prove it Barton. I trust Rick. He says it isn't in his district. It isn't in his district.

  10. What's funny is that people in browntown are arguing over who the better politician is.. Take a look around your ugly city and stop living in denial. You live in the worst part of the U.S. . You all relate to Mexico more than the rest of the civilized state of Texas. God damn you all. You are an embarrassment. You already live in hell.
