"Prove it Barton. I trust Rick. He says it(Lincoln Park) isn't in his district. It isn't in his district."

From the editor:  Despite what Commissioner Ricardo Longoria, Jr. is telling people, Lincoln Park is clearly in District 1, Rick's district.  But, that wouldn't even matter if Rick were thinking clearly. The majority of the users of Lincoln Park reside in Southmost, District 1.  East Little League plays their games in Lincoln Park.

Anyway, how does Rick help himself by denying the park is in his district?  He comes off as petty and childish.

I don't live in District 1 but I'm angry as hell about Brownsville losing an irreplaceable asset, a taxpayer asset.  That should be Rick's concern, too, but it is not.

The yellow section is District 1.  Lincoln Park is just south of University Blvd., west of where Jackson St. hits University

  1. Ricardo Longoria is a DICK! His "SGT Shultz" act ("I know nothing") has a lot fooled. Longoria really doesn't know anything. I is a promoter of the "Ignorance is Bliss" philosophy. What a shame the people of Southmost have no better choices for the city commission. Rick serves himself....not the citizens of his district.

  2. It doesn't matter if it is or isn't in his district. MANY from his district utilize it. AND, although he represents his District on the City Commission, he is ONE VOTE just like his fellow commissioners and can make a difference. He SHOULD care about issues that pertain to other districts because they affect the City and taxpayers as a whole.

  3. When Ricardo Longoria won for comissioner the first time around, he ran for District 1 comissioner, he was an advocate for Southmost and the residents of Southmost. During his first run he went door to door, he even said so himself in a lot of his ads and to whoever stopped to talk to him. As time went by, he became one of the "guys" from the "comissioners" group, he became one of "them" and FORGOT who he was elected to represent. I do not live on the Southmost area and do not use Lincoln Park but as a citizen of this town I feel that EVERYONE should be upset and should confront those elected officials who want to give away a green area that belongs not only to the District 1 but to the city of Brownsville and the citizens that live and pay taxes here not to some rich people from Austin.

  4. If Rick says it isn't in his district, I believe him. Why would he lie? Prove it is an up-to-date map and not a Photoshop or old map.

    1. No, son. You can go to the City of Brownsville website yourself like I did.

  5. As most of the time, some people will focus on a minor point than the over all issue and the impact it has on our city. In this instance, Rick knows a lot of his district constituents use Lincoln Park and should be a strong voice against the give away regardless of the park's location in or out of his district. All on the commission should be pushing for true replacement cost, if they intend to go through the park transfer to UTB. True replacement costs should be that they provide a similar site with location, location, location with amenities nearby, size, and improvements to be same or exceed what the park now has. Site improvements is critical to the land that will be used to mitigate the land deal, meaning utilities, walkways, trees, fauna, parking, etc. To accept anything less is to give away taxpayer's assets and a disservice to the citizens of Brownsville who continue to be asked to pay a high tax rate to give away city assets.
