Pat Ahumada |
This is the walkway for citizens coming from Mexico to the U.S. at the Gateway Bridge. This walkway has been like this for years, which makes me wonder why a permanent walkway has not been built to replace what was supposed to be a temporary walkway. This looks like 4th world infrastructure. According to Cascos the Bridge and Road fund was bursting at the seams, but apparently the county cannot afford to build a nice walkway for citizens coming into the U.S.

Below are pics of the "temporary" wooden walkway Ahumada is talking about:
this sounds like something that would be the responsibility of the US government and not the county
ReplyDeletePardon me but Pat Ahumada should attend a county commission meeting and make his case during public comments just like the rest of us. He doesn't really have the credibility to be taken seriously in discussions on the use of public funds.
ReplyDeleteObviously ahumada is again misinformed. The road & bridge system has nothing to do with the international bridges.
ReplyDelete(Obviously ahumada is again misinformed.)
ReplyDeleteThe moron's been hitting the bottle, again. I mean, he is a shrimper, ain't he?
Dags.
The Commerce Clause describes an enumerated power listed in the United States Constitution (Article I, Section 8, Clause 3). The clause states that the United States Congress shall have power "To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes."
ReplyDeleteCameron County is in violation of the Commerce Clause and has been since it began charging fees and using them NOT to maintain the bridge but as taxes to finance the county budget. None of the Brownsville Eunuchs has the balls to take them to court. Why should people from Matamoros pay taxes to support Cameron County. They pay sales tax and that is legal. However, placing a toll on crossing the river is unconstitutional. And, it magnifies the extreme poverty of an area that cannot afford to finance its own government.
Pat could hit a curb parked in his garage.
ReplyDeleteThe Bridge fund covers the construction and maintenance for these type of improvements moron...And, it is not my job to go to Commissioner's meetings every time you think I should. It is the responsibility of the County Judge to provide the leadership to deal with his bridge improvements and security with the sheriff;'s office. For a shrimper, it seems I am more informed than you, Anonymous 1:33 pm or should say Moron..
ReplyDeleteEven Matamoros has a better walkway than the county for pedestrians.
ReplyDeleteAnd, no matter how you slice it Anonymous 1:33 pm, the road and bridge fund is not to be used to balance the budget or to be used to influence an election by giving pay raises. But, of course, that was not in intent according to Cascos and those who look the other way to the misuse of the road and bridge fund. I am assuming the bridge fund is the fund that accounts for the tolls on the Gateway, Los Tomates, and Los Indios. If not, it does not matter, because the misuse of funds still applies and the tolls collected should be used to maintain the improvements needed for pedestrians. .
ReplyDeleteThe road and bridge fund has nothing to do with the maintenance of international bridges nor can it be used to repair or maintain the international bridges no matter how you slice it.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you "morons" address the issue of Cameron County illegally collecting tolls on International Bridges in violation of the US Constitution? Or, is that too far over your head?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 4:51, address the fact the road and bridge fund is being used for something other than what it was created for. It was not created to balance the budget... You seem to conveniently over look this important fact. Political grandstanding to use this fund to balance budget without raising taxes and give raises, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteDo you know how it was created? How its funded? You are really uninformed. You begin by claiming the fund should be used to fix canopys on bridge. Then when that is wrong you shift it to something else. You are so ignorant as to how these funds function its laughable. You are the dilusional one. Pathetic.
ReplyDeleteI am not saying I am wrong, Anonymous 11:36 am. but I do acknowledge not to know how the county appropriates its' funds generated from the international bridges, nor does it matter. The point you are missing is that the road and bridge fund is not to be used to balance a budget to avoid raising taxes and give raises. And, based on what I do know, the county is responsible for the maintenance of the international bridges with the tolls it collects. In fact we constructed jointly the Los Tomates Bridge with revenue bonds issued to cover the investment. The U.S. Govt is responsible for the staffing of the bridge and their internal operations.
ReplyDeleteIsnt the share the city gets from tolls at veterans bridge used to bslance the cities budget? Simple yes or no. Don't need the novel.
ReplyDeleteIt is not designated as a road and bridge fund. The county administers the revenue and we get our share after all expenses are paid. So, we do not mislead the public as a designated fund used for what it is intended for. People like you can go on and on to justify a wrong..
ReplyDeleteLike a child, you want to compare and create a perception that the city's bridge revenues are the same as the county's designated Road & Bridge Fund, when their is no comparison. Two different budgets and funds are appropriated differently, but I guess that is above your intelligence.
ReplyDeleteIt was you that said the Road & Bridge Fund should be used to repair the International Bridges. When that was pointed out that you were wrong, you change your spin. Bridge tolls have been used for decades to supplement the County's general fund, keeping property taxes low. The city uses its' share of the bridge tolls to do the identical thing. The road & bridge fund is funded through property taxes. The county commission on an annual basis determines how much of the tax rate gets allocated to the R&B fund. Go research. A significant # of counties in the state have a Road & Bridge fund with no international bridges. You show your ignorance by spouting about issues you have no knowlege about. Lastly, the Road & Bridge fund was not used to give raises. Get your facts straight.
ReplyDeleteYes, I did, meaning the Road & Bridge Fund as reported in the newspaper under the assumption the bridge or bridges they are stating includes the international bridges, but even a 7 year old can understand the point you are not getting, the Road & Bridge Fund is a separate fund according to the county judge that is being used for something other than its' intended purpose in this instance, which was to balance the budget. The reasoning he gave was that it was bursting at the seems and has no use for the extra money, which was a way to justify to transfer the designated funds into the General Fund knowing the B&R Fund is not to be used for other purposes. Can you get that through your head? Do not mix the segregated fund with the General Fund, spend the money on the intended purposes. No more response, as you seem to want to justify a wrong by any form.
ReplyDeleteTAS bien PENDEJO Picho
DeleteOh so now you want no more response. LOL. No money was transferred from the R&B fund to General Fund. The bridges that the R&B Fund refers to are off system bridges. Those that cross over irrigation canals or drain ditches. Absolutely nothing to do with international bridges. It is you that doesn't get it. I do agree with you that a 7 year old can understand it. It appears, you never left the 2nd grade. One more time. No money was transferred from the R&B fund to GF. Now, No response necessary.
ReplyDeleteyou are wrong Pat I work fir custims the walkway has been like that for months not years. there is a permanent structure in the southbound side and the nirth bound side with lights is almost done. BTW few citizens use thus walkway it is mostly mexican nationals coming to donate plasma.
ReplyDeleteHate to think you work for customs, because I am not a mexican citizen coming to donate plasma. I used the walk way years ago and it is still there. Perhaps the old one was taken down and then later replaced with this one, but you miss the point. We are not fourth or third world country to keep a temporary walkway indefinite. When is the permanent structure going to be built? It is time..
