Carlos Marin's Su Clinica Familiar Quietly Registering Voters~What's the Catch?

Although I've known exactly what not to do since childhood, no one has ever gifted me a horse. My mental oath to not examine the teeth of any horse gifted to me remains untested.

Until now.

Operatives of Carlos Marin's Su Clinica Familiar have been observed quietly registering voters at both the Central and Southmost branches of the Brownsville Public Library.  No eyebrows would be raised were the politically-connected clinic offering free HIV tests or flu shots to the elderly, but voter registration?

We're told that deputization to register voters involves a 45 minute course offered by Election Administrator Chris Davis.

Voter registration lists are to be turned in to the Election Administrator, not used in a partisan way.

No one in Brownsville works the political system better than Carlos Marin.  He literally controls 4A "economic development" funds, vetted by the Brownsville Economic Development Council and issued by the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation, while his Su Clinica Familiar employee, Rose Gowen, controls the 4B "quality of life" funds emanating from the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation.

So, what's up Carlos?  Let me see those teeth.

    Accurate.

    Inaccurate.

  3. Deputy registrars are not supposed to compile any kind of contact list based on the voter registrations. Battleground Texas was caught doing this a while back and it was all over the news. They were making lists with the voters registration information so that they could later contact those voters to remind them who to vote for. It does raise suspicion that this politico clinic owner is paying full time employees to register voters. Fishy, fishy.

  6. Just proves that Carlos Marin and Rose Gowen are in "Cahoots". They are no different than the "politiqueras" that go out to the poor and infermed and get their signature on a ballot. Rose Gowen is proving that she is also a "politiquere"......and she shoud be investigated.

  7. The Browntown Herald had an interesting editorial this week criticizing the government of Harlingen for not being "weak" enough. Why has the Herald never been critical of the Brownsville "extremely weak" and "disoriented" and "leaderless" city government. Obviously the Herald doesn't understand that even in a "weak mayor" form of government, there can be coordination and leadership to bring about effective and progressive government. When I think of Brownsville city government, i think of a line by Tom Cruise in the movie "The Firm" when he described to the mob bosses that his information should be thought of as a "rudderless ship at sea"....no power, no leadership and managed by a group of self-serving elitists. The idea of weak government was intended to spread out the power of local government....but in Brownsville two things have happened......a small group of people have captured control of too many boards and commissions and our city commission has turned over leadership to a non-elected group of those elites. This has been possible because of lack of oversight, the unwillingness of elected judicial official to investigate their "bretheran" politicians and an ignorant public who usually don't vote because there are too many elections and candidates for them to keep up with. Most third world nations have a higher voter turnout than Cameron County and Brownsville. This "weak" system has contributed to local ignorance and non-particiapation and has allowed in Brownsville for an elite group to take over the city.....not leading it, not manageing it, but using their positions for self-promotion and personal gain. Carlos Marin is in the group along with Tony Martinez, Julieta Garcia, Eduardo Campirano, Freddy Rusteberg, Rose Zavaletta Gowen, and United Brownsville. The Herald calls Harlingen on an issue that it is blind to here in Brownsville. I guess the new motto of the Herald editorialists is "Don't shit where you eat."

  8. Another close associate of Carlos Marin is Eduardo Campirano, Director at the Port of Brownsville. He makes big bucks and a major Herald article last week "heralded" BND for being the # Free Trade Zone in the nation. So, why are we still paying taxes to the Port???????????????? The Port Rail Board Commission....whose membership includes Freddy Rusteberg....voted to sell the port rail system. How will that money be used in the community and "why are we still paying taxes to an enterprise that is so successful. It is time the taxpayers stand up to the Port and demand that taxation end. Campriano is now like his good friend Julieta Garcia, riding our taxpayers to the bank each month and blowing smoke up the public butt. No more taxes to BND!!

    1. "# Free Trade Zone in the nation." The only reason the port is number one is because of the value of the oil rigs that Keppel AmFELS "exported". In terms of income and wages, do you really think it is bigger than Houston?

  9. Has Carlos Marin become the new "politiquero" for the Democrats? The picture with Ernie Hernandez is appropriate. Maybe Carlos will be Hernandez campaign chair when he (Ernie) runs for mayor of Brownsville.

  10. Jerry Hedgecock and his corrupt organization might be getting a kick back for allowing these actions at the Brownsville library. Marin will do anything to steal and manipulate from the poor.
